Huge improvement over Kit Lens
The difference in using the DA 55-300mm versus the kit DAL 55-200mm lens is pretty large. The auto focus is quicker as is the manual focus. The included hood keeps lens flare to a minimum and even at 300mm, the lens takes sharp, hard focused pictures. It is a bit heavier than I expected but has metal mounts so it is not in danger of falling off your camera. My primary walking around lens when there may be a long shot needed. Great lens for the price!
This is simply a great lens for the price! I'm not a professional so to spend thousands of dollars on a lens that is only fractionally better makes no sense! Great second lens
Great second lens, without breaking the bank. I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer and this definitely goes with me in my backpack. I have added a third zoom to my kit as well. Love it his lens. I am now travel with only 2 lenses — this one and a wide angle zoom such as 17 - 35mm). Also: great if you can get VVivitar 13mm.

Good inexpensive zoom.
This is a very good zoom for a modern Pentax DSLR. If you have a standrard 18-55mm lens, and then you add the 55-300mm, you cover 18 to 300mm range. This is more than you need for everyday photography.
