Protectaclear metal coating
This is a professional-grade coating to seal a metal surface in order prevent oxidation/corrosion. It is not particularly resistant to abrasion but stands up well normal jewelry wear. It IS a coating so its suitability for fine chains is problematic if there is a need for flexibility in the chain. For the same reason avoid use on hinges and moving parts ( it possible that thinning the product may work but a thinner coating will be more susceptible to penetration of moisture etc. The product arrives in metal containers- DO NOT store it in plastic containers since the product may degrade it! Instruction are included with the coating and are also available online. THEY MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY AND IN ORDER. NOTE: You will need fresh Xylene solvent ($10 a quart at Ace hardware etc.). It is used as a final drying agent prior to coating and for cleanup as well as a solvent for removing the coating if needed. You will also need some baking soda to dissolve ( 1/3 cup per quart) in the final rinse of Mexican and other antique silver to remove dissolved chlorene in use by many municipalities to kill agents of disease in their tap water. This coating is the only thing I've found that will prevent antique and Mexican silver from immediately tarnishing after cleaning.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
