A fine tape player
This is more or less a bog standard 90s Walkman radio. What that means is that you get a well built but plasticky feeling product, not unlike an old Game Boy. Nothing on this is expensive or premium, but it does seem solid and durable enough. Odds are that the AM/FM radio will probably be working perfectly. The tape player will most likely need a new belt (or will soon) but otherwise is about 5:1 on being fully functional. I've seen some where the fast forward gets sticky, but never completely broken outside of the belt. Side note: if you do have to get at the belt, there are no screws on this unit, it's all held together with plastic tabs. If you have a speed control issue, you can access that through a hole on the rear of the unit. Assuming your unit is fully intact, the AM/FM radio ... The analog tuner picks up stations almost as well as my much better home receiver, and sounds decent. The FM band has a function to allow only local stations to be picked up if you have issues with interference, which is a nice touch. The tape player sounds serviceable, and you can switch between normal or CrO2 Metal tapes. No Dolby or Mega Bass on this unit. The manual claims a rated battery life of about 8 hours for the tape player or 30 hours from the radio on two AAs. Overall, I'd say pick this up if you can get it for a good price, and need an inexpensive solution for a portable radio and/or cassette playback. Don't expect miracles and you won't be disappointed.
