Excellent Build, Excellent Image Quality, great alternative to Canon.
I am a professional wedding photographer, and my Canon 70-200 2.8L IS had pretty much run its course, and I was no longer happy with the image quality. I didn't want to spend over $2000 on a replacement, as I am primarily a prime lens shooter and my 135mm produces images just as sharp as the new Canon 70-200. I started doing research and reading reviews on third party options, and have used Sigma glass before, I found a practically new unit on e-bay for $935.00 and purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised when the lens arrived at my door. The build quality is excellent, and although not weather sealed, feels just as good as the Canon equivalent. Image quality is gorgeous, and sharper then anything my Canon 70-200 produced. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this lens! Focus is fast, the Optical Stabilization works great, and the black finish looks great with the camera and doesn't stand out as much as the big white lenses. Awesome Lens. Best bang for your buck.
I shoot at a semi-pro level. This was a great lens to add to my bag. It did not break the bank like the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS. I have shot with both lenses side by side. I will say the Image Stabilization on the Canon is better just not 2x the price better. Also, I have noticed some slight chromatic aberration and soft edges with this lens. Nothing I cant fix in post, but its enough for me not to give picture quality a 5 star rating. The lens is heavy, but if it was light, I would be concerned. The build quality is great and feels awesome to hold . I LOVE the tripod ring on this camera. I think it is much more convenient than the Canon counterpart. This lens takes some practice as do most lenses with longer focal point. It is harder to hold and heavier so it can take some practice getting used to but so does the Canon in my opinion. I have always enjoyed Sigma lenses and for the digital race, I have not been impressed. There new line of lenses with OS have changed my opinion and I am even thinking of investing in a few others. The biggest downside to this lens is the black and gold color scheme make it look like you are shooting with a Nikon, and who really wants that kind of reputation.Read full review

Great lens, forget about the L
I really enjoy this lens. Great bokeh, and decent at limiting the amount of CA. I've compared imagages shot with this lens and with the Canon 70-200mm f/4L and with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. At the same aperature, the f/4L has slightly less CA than the Sigma. The sharpness is pretty much the same. The canon f/2.8 is slightly sharper and has IS. The IS does come in handy, but I have learned to carry my monopod around, so to me this becomes a non-issue. Also if you can shoot at greater than 1/focal length, then camera shake is not an issue. Its got a great build quality and looks good too. The HSM is maybe a slight hair slower than USM, so I'd say its good enough for anyone. High Quality with a not so high price tag
I have been shooting with Sigma lenses for several years now. I purchased a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 a few years ago and enjoyed it greatly. I came to the conclusion that I simply didn't have much use for the thing and I sold it. Stupid move, believe me! This lens is rock solid. I missed it so much I had to get another one. Recently Sigma has released a 70-200 f2.8 with image stabilization. I get that, but I don't get why it costs twice as much as the one without it. I played with their new release lens (with IS) and simply cannot justify the extra cost. However, I am reviewing the previous model, aren't I? Constructed solidly and built with an internal focus/zoom feature, you simply cannot ask for a better workhorse lens than this one. I know full well about all the scientific reviews that look at chromatic aberration, vignetting at different focal lengths and the like, but in truth, who really cares? When you put this thing on the end of your camera and starting really taking serious interest in making a quality shot, you simply cannot go wrong with this lens. Having a constant aperture of 2.8 is definitely my selling point. I learned a long time ago not to sacrifice on glass. Cameras come and go. Let's face it, their just like computers these days. But glass, good glass, that's the kind of stuff you hang on to, especially a 70-200 gun like the Sigma here. Way to go Sigma! I'm impressed!Read full review

Great lens, solid build quality
Awesome addition to our 70D camera. Bought for child sports and wildlife photography, so far only used for swim meets and the picture quality is better overall compared to the Sigma 18-250 we have been using (which itself is really good). Solidly built, smooth adjusting, near silent and fast auto focusing. The image stabilization works like a charm, though it can slow down action shooting ever so slightly. It is hefty, but did find that holding under the tripod adapter really stabilizes it. Buying after a fair amount of research, it has more than met expectations.

Great lens for a fraction of the cost.
This is a great alternative to the more expensive name brand lenses. It takes great pictures. Has a little vignetting in the 200 mm range. Since I primarily use it for sports, I don't notice it as much. All in all, I couldn't be happier.

Excellent lens, sharp pictures across the entire range. Good in low light. On the heavy side in terms of weight, but that translates into solid build quality. The tripod ring has a nice feature in that it is hinged so it can be removed without having to remove the lens from camera body! Neat! Overall, this lens offers great value compared to equivalent higher priced competitors such as Canon.

The image stabilization work great,it makes clicking noises when Focusing though, I'm not sure if that is normal. It seems to hunt a bit sometimes when focusing, but I have nothing g to compare it to, bottom line is this lens rocks!!

Great Lens
I am a novice when it comes to camera equipment. My camera is a Canon XTi and the lens is a standard Canon 75-300mm F5.6. I can take decent pictures but don't know anything about f stops, shutter speeds and lighting calculations. I just move the little dial to "sports" when I'm taking pictures of something moving and move it to "flower" when I'm taking pictures of something up close....etc. Well, my girls have been in gymnastics for a couple of years and just started entering meets. Due to the fact that you can't use a flash, 90% of my pictures were blurry (even when they were standing still) So, I did some online investigations and found that I need a lens with a lower f-stop. I have no idea how to calculate what I need but there were suggestions that it would need to be in the f2 to f3 range. I found this lens at a really great price (compared to all others in the 200mm+ range) and with great reviews. I haven't taken it to a meet yet but I took it to practice last week under similar circumstances. The lens allowed me to capture my daughter on the trampoline in mid-air like she was frozen with nearly zero blur and good lighting. I've included what my pictures looked like with my old 300mm lens vs what they look like with this 200mm Sigma. I was utterly shocked when I received it as I was expecting something smaller than my 300mm. This thing looks like it was engineered vs the standard Canon lens that looks like it was just put together. Its a beast. I couldn't be more happy.Read full review

The perfect go to lens for portraiture.
A cheaper alternative to Canons 70-200 2.8 lens the Sigma stands its ground. Since buying this lens it has hardly left my camera body. The quality of the images take's you to a new level. If you are using it for a long time you do feel the weight, but that's the price we pay. Overall its has been one of the best investments this year for me.
