A Favorite WW II Film
The cast is superb, the location filming is real accurate. I was stationed in the Munich, Augsburg area for two and a half years. I read this book years before the movie came out and when I saw the movie, lttle did I know that a year later, I would be a paratrooper there. This film holds up well and the copy I bought is superbly sharp and sound is excellent. An excellent WW II film based on true story.The cast is superb, the location filming is real accurate. recruited Germans go to germany to spy for US~ good~
Recruited German captives are sent back into Germany to spy for the allies~ Germany is loosing the war and being driven back to their own boarders. a plot to get info is plotted and recruited german captives "volunteer" to spy for the allies inside german~ excellent cast with Oskar Warner as the idealistic and very likeable young man headed back to get troop info to help the allies~ toss in Richard Basehart at the man who thought up the plot. AS Warner dropped behind lines is gathering info hot on his trail is the Gestapo. they did this one right by actually having a German/Vinesee born actor (Warner ) as the hero of this lesser known movie~ the GREAT ending to escape BACK to the US lines is worth the watch~ this movie was one of the Highlights of Warners Career. Gary Merrill ... “Decision Before Dawn” (1951) on dvd.
A friend’s father, who is dead now but who was in the U.S. Army as an officer had a small role in this film. This was the first filmed on-site in Europe after WWII (in 1951).
