One of the best debut albums of all time.

There's a reason why this is considered one of the top 1001 albums of all time. "1001 albums to hear before you die" This was Kanye West's debut album which had gone through some serious challenges to get this out, let alone to get west signed to a credited record label. This album goes over many views of this world. West raps about not just college and the impact it may or may not have on one's future. (skits). He raps about Jesus and religion (Jesus walks). He raps about family and the importance of being close with your family (family business) He hits so many controversial points in the United States and does it in a gracious flow you just want to keep listening. He uses covers from older songs (Aretha Franklin) and also talks about the fact we need older music to still enjoy life ...

  • Kanye Who? Now you know...

Being from Chicago, I'm one of the few that was a fan of Kanye West before his infamous "George Bush does not care about black people" statement and chart-topping "Golddigger", Kanye West released his debut album "College Dropout". When I purchase a hip-hop C.D. one of the most important aspects of it is whether or not the music is unique. For example, when you hear a Pharrel beat you know it. Also, when you hear "D. O. Double G", you know who is rapping. And furthermore, Dr. Dre has always had his own unique sound since the days of N.W.A. (Niggas With Attitude). Kanye west produces all of his own songs and has a truly original way of coming across. He raps about what he knows and expresses himself in a classy and genuine manner. The beats ...

  • Excellent

The CD arrived much earlier than expected and was exactly as described. The actual CD does have a few dents within the center ring, making it a bit hard to put it back in its case, but the disc still works. It's exactly as described - the remastered, uncensored version of The College Dropout - and so I highly recommend buying it while you still can!

  • Great beats, good lyrics, brilliantly produced

As Kanye's first effort, this CD is pretty spectacular. Amazing rhythms and mixing, solid lyrics, and an overall high level of energy make it a great CD to listen to, from beginning to end. I could do without the little skits between songs, but it seems de rigeur these days, so I'll pardon the noise. My favorite songs: 1. Jesus walks 2. Get 'em High (w/Common) (actually, they're all good...)

  • Wow! That's music to my ears

Wow was my first thought when I heard this album. I was already familiar with some of Kanye's work with the Roc. And "Through the Wire" had been out for a minute. It is refreshing to hear such a new sound that rap had been missing. His ability to make up fresh beats as well as sample classic tunes and make them into fresh loops is incredible. He put his own unique spin on the rap game. Much deserving of all of his grammy nominations. This is one album that wont disapoint. Best tracks: 1. Jesus Walks 2. Through the Wire
