    ibm cycle crank tool

Decent replacement tool for original. Threads can break and cause problems removing the broken threads from the machine, but can be used if care is taken not to apply too much force. Only replacement tool that I know of that is available, certainly better than not having one.

  • Top critical review

works well but I am always afraid of breaking it.

If you want to work on selectric typewriters, then this tool will work but it is fragile. I have watched Duane Jensen use his rotate tool on his video's and he has never complained that his rotate tool broke so easily. Duane was using an original rotate tool. Make the tool more like the original and stronger.

  • It broke on first use

This tool is a new version of the Hand Cycle Tool, a tool that is essential if you repair Selectric Typewriters. I was trained to repair Selectrics at the IBM factory in Lexington, KY, in 1966 and wished to revisit those days and start working on Selectrics again. However, you can't find an original Hand Cycle Tool. But this is a new version. It screws in accurately (it uses an unusual left-screw direction), however the tool lasted about ten seconds. As soon as it tightened a little, not much pressure, the handles broke off. Cheap, but still about $20 wasted, not mention that, with the collapse of the handles, there went my last hope of being to work on Selectrics again.

  • IBM Selectric Tool

Does the job it was designed to do. I would prefer a round knob grip, but the 'T' style works OK. Absolute requirement for working on IBM Selectric typewriters. I had to put some significant pressure on the tool to move the 'innards', but the steel construction held fine with no indication it would fail under pressure.

  • Fills the void.

Works as intended. Threads are a bit delicate. It would be better if it was a circular knob for easier turning like the original IBM cycle tool.
