Maxell UD XL are the very best for R2R and standard cassettes. This particular Maxell is noticeably better, outstanding performance in every range, mid, high's and low. Well worth seeking out if you want the very best sound quality!

The tapes and cases are just fine other than the fact that they do what Maxells are usually NOT supposed to do. Which is SHED oxide off of the tape surface as it travels over the heads and other parts while being played. This requires that the tape machine be cleaned after only a few minutes. The OXIDE MORE IMPORTANTLY... the tape is now significantly LESS than it was before in that section played. I will have to "BAKE" the tapes in a DEHYDRATOR for 12 hours flip them and bake for 12 hours again to insure complete coverage. Hopefully...enabling the oxide to stick properly. This procedure will be accomplished again every 6 months or year.

These Maxell reels just can't be beat! Always great sound without the worry of sticky-shed! It doesn't seem to matter if you get a Maxell from the 80's or the 90's... they always reproduce a quality sound that lasts a long time!

It's hard to judge old recording tape, age and chemicals began to shed off. These tapes were just fine, I always bake my tapes at 135 degrees keeps the tape from sticking on the heads
