    Creating Creatures of Fantasy and Imagination

    I borrowed this book from my library and have since bought three copies. In the book, the author shows how fantasy creatures can be evolved, starting from ordinary people and animals. She makes numerous suggestions for alterations and shows steps in the process, with close-ups of details. Some of her results are perhaps more successful than others, but that is likely a matter of personal taste. I appreciate that she gives an idea of the anatomy of the animals on which she bases her creations, which always helps to make fantasy more "lifelike". I wish the book had more scope, but one can't expect everything in one book, and there are actually a nice range of examples. Well over half the book is devoted to human-type fantasy creatures: fairies, gnomes, elves,etc. Really nice ...

    creating creatures of fantasy..

    This was basically a brand new book. I did not see any major problems. The book is really interesting, both to read and use as a visual resource for my high school art classes. They cannot afford books like these, so I buy them with my own money at used prices. The kids really appreciate the fact that I try to find resources of things they are interested in. The artist is excellent, her faces could use a little work, though! I teach portraiture form life and pictures combined and my advanced students pointed out some awkward facial positioning!

    Fun book!

    What a good idea -- draw your friends and relatives as elves, ogres, and even mermaids. Claudia Nice give some good hints and illustrations on ears, hands, and even warts. My artist friends are also intrigued.
