Jemery Brett and David Burke play Sherlock Holmes and his associate, Dr. Watson, in three adaptations of stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In "The Red Headed League", a not too prosperous shop owner answers an add in the paper for high wages for performing a simple writing task. The only requirement he has is that the employee have red hair, and must work between the hours of 10:00 and 2:00 every day. He accepts the position and all is well for several weeks until he shows up for work and the office is closed. He seeks out Holmes to see if he could find out what is going on and what happened to his job. "The Resident Patient" has a successful young doctor requesting Holmes and Watson to solve a mystery. He has a resident patient living with him who also is his ... It turns out that there is a lot for him to be frightened about. "The Final Problem" was meant to be by the author as the last episode to be written of Sherlock Holmes and his adventures. He had become tired of writing the very popular stories and wanted to pursue other things. (Fortunately, there was such a public outcry for more stories that Doyle resumed his exploits. Thus we have "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" stories.) Holmes and Dr. Watson escape several attempts on their lives and they escape to Europe. Holmes meets Moriarty in a final personal challenge to resolve thier differences. As usual, these three TV productions by Granada have fine acting, scenery and, of course, fine screen play. Good viewing for most mystery enthusiasts.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes-vol 5 (dvd)
I am a Holmes collector and this dvd is an excellent addition: it involves two (2) stories that I had never seen before. I know I will enjoy this dvd in the future. I decided to buy this dvd because (1) new stories and (2) the price was good. I plan to purchase other 'volumes' that enhance my collection.
