About this product

Product Information

The mysterious entities of STREGA once decided to share their knowledge of magic with the struggling people of a small country named Zamuel. This formerly poor country instantly became a strong and powerful nation, using mystical relics to invade and conquer the surrounding lands.

Had the STREGA known of the inherent greed in humans, they would have never allowed such power to be taught to them. Now some 1,000 years later, a bitter war is being fought by the STREGA and Empire of Ibsen for control of the remaining relics. Choose between twelve warriors, some members of STREGA, some followers of the Empire, as you determine the fate of these relics.

Destrega is a fighting game with a twist; instead of only fighting hand-to-hand as in traditional fighters, you can roam around the battlefield and fire magical projectiles from afar. The basic forms of attacks include the following: three levels of magic, body blows (close-range combat) and charge dashes. The object of the game is to either reduce your opponent's life meter to zero or have more life when time runs out.

Play then continues for as many rounds as it takes to beat your opponent (you can set the number of rounds in the option screen). Each character differs in his or her power, speed, homing (how well magic targets the opponent), and running, dashing and jumping abilities. Game modes include One-Player Battle, Story, Versus, Team Battle, Time Attack, Endurance and Practice. Records for the different modes can be saved using one block of memory card space.

  • Falls a little short

Initial impressions of the game draw comparisons to Taito's Psychic Force, albeit a ground-based one. In Destrega, your fighters can utilize a variety of long-range attacks as well as the up-close-and-personal kind. Different buttons will activate different attacks: spread shot, power shot, and quick shot. Complete with a rock-scissors-paper hierarchy, Destrega's battle system is unique at the very least. Land obstacles actually make a difference in this game as changes in elevation as well as structures can be used to block incoming attacks. The arenas are quite varied - ranging from hilly mountainsides to courtyards with fountains - and will offer a unique strategy at every level. Graphically, the game looks pretty good. Although the characters are kind of sub-Soul Edge (or Soul Blade, ...

  • DESTREGA

I was looking simply for this game, as I had not played it in several years. DESTREGA is a fighting game by the makers of the Dynasty Warriors series, which I have also come to love. It wasn't known really for much of anything, but the plot was simply unimpressive. That said, the game itself plays well. I am playing it on a Playstation 2, which although it claims full reverse-compatibility, it has minor glitches when one attempts to play Playstation 1 games. The reason I say this is that this particular copy cuts out all sound during scenes in the "Story" mode. As I stated above, the plot is all around unimpressive, and all other aspects of the game are working as intended. I could not say with certainty if there is an error with the disc, or simply the Playstation 2 itself being ...
