I purchased this item expecting to get a DS3231 chip, but instead it was a DS3231M chip. The chip was also defective in that it did not have the correct device address. The address of the device for the RTC either did not show up because the chip was broken or the address is wrong. I found two address, 0x57 and 0x5F. The RTC is supposed to be 0x68. However, when I attempted to use the addresses I found, neither worked correctly to return the time. So it's likely the chip is broken.

It is as described. Sellers page states to read the manual, however they warn that it does not come with one or provide a link for on so if you have questions you need to do your own research.
