Shot in Salzburg against the majestic Bavarian Alps, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is considered one of the greatest screen musicals ever made. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise), the film, based on a real family and their true events, tells the story of a young postulate, Maria (Julie Andrews), who, after proving too high-spirited for the Mother Abess and other nuns, is sent off to work as a governess to seven unruly children. The Von Trapp family is run, in military style, by the seemingly cold-hearted Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), a lonely widowed naval officer. Seeing how badly he and his children need companionship, he proposes to the Baroness Schraeder (Eleanor Parker), a calculating, mutual friend of beloved family friend Max Detweiler (Richard Haydn). It is the baroness who soon realizes that it's Maria--with her warmth and love for the children--the captain really loves. It is nearly bliss for the newly formed family who loves to sing together--except for the cloud looming over their beloved Austrian horizon: Hitler is ascending to power, forcing Von Trapp to decide whether to join the Nazi party--which he loathes--or force his family to leave their home forever. One of the most memorable scores ever written (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) and breathtaking performances by Andrews, Plummer, and the seven children mark this classic as one of the world's most favorite films.

    A Gift of Joy!

    My 84 year old beloved friend, Eleanor, had said how she would love to see this film again. i of course got on to Half.com, to find and buy for her a copy of her own. i found it straight away, bought it, received it quickly, and was able to get it to her within days. she was thrilled to get it! :) she watched it many times, for the comfort and joy, as she has lived alone in her little house for over 30 years; her husband having died nearly 50 years on. sadly, within less than 2 months, her already poor vision began to fail rapidly, and we fear she might have to leave the little home her husband built room by room with love. i am trying what i can do to keep her in her home as long as possible, as she is best friend, soul-mate (so she says), sister,mother, and daughter to me, as i am ...

    The Sound of Music

    This movie is a classic for a reason. Great music and spectacular scenery. I bought this tape because the last one I owned I gave to my little niece - it is her all time favorite feelgood movie, and even at a young age, she knows every song by heart. A wonderful change when you consider that many kids can sing rap songs with lyrics that will curl your otherwise straight hair - by heart. This is Julie Andrews at her best, and she is believable in the part. I can't say that for Christopher Plummer, not the best choice in the world to play Captain Von Trapp, but the part of Mother Superior and the part of Leisle were very well cast.

    THE SOUND OF MUSIC

    CLASSIC Beautiful and based on Vontrapps true life. After watching the movie I looked up the history of the Von Trapp family and they still have a beautiful place in the United States in the mountains where anyone can stay. When Austria was taken over it was because the economy had failed and it was easy for Hitler to take over and they wanted the assistance. The movie is based on history,beautiful scenery like traveling to Austria in your own home, true romance always prevail. No bad language great story, and all ages will enjoy. Songs are nice too.

    The Sound of Music VHS

    I had to sing one of the songs on this particular sound track, for college voice repertoire class. I love the VHS,it was in excellent condition when I received it. I`ll be watching it more with my kids, I think it`s a great sound track for kids to watch; to inspire your children with musical videos such as this one,is a positive way to keep their interest in too music.

    The Sound of Music (1966, VHS)

    The "Sound of Music" was bought as Salzburg is a favorite place. I was drawn to the film largely due to its richness in scenery. The film was a fairly accurate portrayal of Salzburg in the 1930's. It captured the essence, the spirit of Salzburg. The locations where the film was shot brought back incredible memories for me. The music was light and uplifting, the actors were both charming and credible. Actually, there was nothing that I did not like about the film. Would certainly buy another of the film and highly recommend this to others.
