Most of the print heads for sale are used or fakes, and you need a print head if you get the dreaded Check Cartridge U053 error. If you happen to find a new print head from old stock it's worth over $100, since aftermarket ink for this printer is very cheap. I think a new print head will last 10 to 15 years, because this is a 2005 printer and it broke in 2018. Not sure if aftermarket ink harms it. I make sure to print a color and a black and white copy or document every few weeks to keep the ink flowing, but it seems to keep the print head well sealed so that may not be necessary.

printer does not communicate with desk top computer because the necessary driver is not installed and apparently not supported by the printer producer, Canon Further effort is needed to find and install the right driver if it is possible.

Things I used & liked: --------------------- Double-sided printing (save paper & help save the earth!) Built-in scanner & comes with scanner-managing software. Scanner can also be used to make photo-copies. I can use it to make custom iron-on tshirt transfers. It's pretty quick for printing single-sided. Things I didn't like: -------------------- Seems to drink ink - I've had to replace all the ink cartridges, and still haven't been through my first 500-pack of paper. It seemed to say some ink cartridges were empty when they still looked 1/3-full (it is "too smart" about the low ink, and won't let me override it and print anyway). When it's printing double-sided, you have to be patient, because after it prints the first side it has to wait several seconds for the ink to dry, before pulling the page back into the printer to print the other side (a "necessary evil" of double-sided printing with a color inkjet printer, as opposed to toner-based printer). For a short period of time (maybe a week or two?) the door that usually automatically opens for the printed pages to come out stopped auto-opening (since then, it's mysteriously "fixed itself"). It's kinda big, but it needs to be that big to have a full-size scanner, and also for the internal mechanisms to do double-sided printing.Read full review
Dual paper trays. No unloading main paper to resize or change paper types for special jobs. Everything closes to keep dust out. 2 different black tanks print black and photo black so you do not use up photo black for normal text. A different tank for each color. So you do not have to toss out a cartridge still ¼ full of 3 colors because you ran out of the forth color in that same tank. High quality scans and prints. And it is easy to use. In the event of a loss of power the clock/calendar resets to the computer time it is attached to. Bad points Paper trays do not hold a lot of paper. When you fax a copy is no longer saved to hard drive. Copies are saved in memory but will be lost if printer looses power for any reason. Loosing both the copy and transmission records (Time/Date sent)
Bought this printer to replace identical one. My wife really like the printer , but it got to the point where about 1/2 the time it wouldn't print , No error messages , just wouldn't print , she liked the dual feed feature the most with scrap in 1 tray and good in the other and a simple button to pick from , Print quality is very good, they don't make this anymore thus why we looked on E bay. She wanted the same features and since we had a bunch of ink for it also we looked for the same machine . This one needed a couple of parts , but we took those out of the old one and so far its working great. This one looked almost new when we got it , so very happy
