Good DVD reader/writer, except no fixings
It's not better than I expected, because I expected it to work and it does. It is installed in and powered by an older computer and connected via an adaptor to a USB port on a more recent one, but still running XP pro. It was recognised immediately and both reads and writes on DVD-R disks. I probably won't be trying to write on any other kind. I have used the free CDburnerXP program (which actually works with CDs and DVDs and all operating systems up to Windows 10, I believe) to write, and VLC to play video and music. No problems. It comes with a disk with 3 optional programs, but no driver, which should not be needed. There is some "green" program which keeps track of its energy usage so I know how much planet I have saved. There is an extremely limited version of Nero which nags you to pay for a full version. This also insists on an empty disk for each write and can't add anything afterwards, unlike CDburnerXP. There is a firmware update, which I intend to leave alone. My only niggle is that there are none of the special screws needed to lock it into place. I had to take some from my region-free DVD reader, which will be a nuisance if I want to use that occasionally. That's the reason for the missing star.

Seems to be a good drive, but it's early days yet.
Good cheap drive. Using it on Windows 7 Pro. Windows found it and installed the correct driver straight away. Reads all my old CD's and DVD's perfectly. Writes DVD's perfectly although it's not at 24X speed, more like 16X. Good drive though never the less.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not as solid as a quality unit but does the job.
My (very) old CD expired so I wanted a cheap CD/DVD player to install the odd program and occasionally watch a DVD, this does it. No frills, no bells or whistles just does the job (for under £20 including postage!). Obviously not as solid (or heavy) as a quality unit but still feels robust. if you want it fast power saving and a solid burn with no errors this is the drive you want
this unit is quick effective and fits almost all desktop op systems it is a fast burner and accurate it goes in to sleep mode when not being used so you don't notice it until you need it and when you need it fly's like the wind to your assistance so yes a solid burn and durable as well speed adjuster via software and responds precisely just the way I like itVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Optical Drive with all formats
Probably the only DVD Optical drive type you need to have on your computer. I did expect to have some DVD RAM software, but will format in Windows 10 anyway. Will only take single sided disks so double sided DVD Ran disks not usable. I am a fan of DVD RAM where a disk once formatted can be used like a removable hard drive wit 4.7 Gb capacity. rather than the WORM +R or -R disks. Excellent product

Easypeasy
(Windows 10) After many yrs my writer stopped recognising discs so bought this because of low price and the Asus name, it arrived quickly and i swapped them straight over and started pc up, tried burning and bosha it worked right off the bat no software installation neededed, i noticed a few moaning dumbo's saying its noisy, I can tell you its no noisier than any writer i have had in the past, it works flawlessly and i am very satisfied with it, great writer in my opinion so far, if you need a writer just get this one and see.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
