ReviewsA good portion of this slender volume is devoted to an explanation of the historical background and scientific theories behind cloning. Goodnough jumps right in with the announcement in 2001 by Advanced Cell Technology that their company had cloned a human embryo. Much space is also devoted to the birth of Dolly, the first cloned sheep, in 1997. The author then explains the cloning process in a simple and comprehensible manner, and outlines the ethical, social, and scientific questions that it has raised. The information is presented in a way that allows readers to see both sides of the debate and to draw their own conclusions. Colorful charts, photographs, and a few helpful diagrams are included. This title complements William Dudley's The Ethics of Human Cloning (Greenhaven, 2001) and will be a useful if already slightly dated addition., School Library Journal April 2003
