Probably good for 99% of cats IF you size it correctly! That is the key!

I purchased the Sentry calming collars for my four cats, when the newest one joined the household and they just we not getting along! From a bit too rambunctious play-fighting, to vertical marking (ew!) things were getting out of control. I have spent literally over $1000 on the Feliway brand plug-in 'happy pheromone' air diffusers. I am sure that they do work, but trying to treat the whole house, one room at a time was just too expensive. I thought a collar - that can treat one cat a time, no matter where they are in the house! I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF A PROPER FIT! It is not that easy but you MUST make the collar tight. Trust me, if it is a bit too loose you might have the problem that I had. Because I was new to fitting the collar, and it was a long haired cat and an older cat (skinny) I might have put the collar on a little bit too loose (and I mean only a little bit!) HOWEVER this resulted in a great big problem when the cat must have pawed at the collar, got his dew claw stuck, was able to pull it loose just enough to be able to try to bite at it, then cut his gums and tongue up on the hard plastic buckle. I left him unattended for less than 4 minutes (while cleaning the potties) and when I came upstairs, there was blood everywhere. Oh man!! The collar did not break away on its own, but I was able to remove it easily with scissors. A trip to the emergency vet (of course this happened after-hours) showed that he was ok...just a little cutting of the soft tissue. OK, all that sounds pretty bad, right? But I do think that the product itself IF PROPERLY FITTED actually does help. In the 30 or so hours that the cats were wearing the collars, they did seem far less aggressive towards each other (plus the smell was really nice)

CALMING COLLAR NOT FOR MY CAT

My cats do not have the problems that this is made for, I was hoping it would calm one so that I could clip his nails. It did not help with that. He also is a spaze, will jump on my other cat for no reason, just to tackle I guess. He also runs through the house and uses the walls as rebounding or banks on his turns. The other cat seems to have a problem with litter boxes, and we have multiple boxes so there is no reason for her not have one she can use. She is about 4 years old and has done this the whole time she has been alive. So not sure how to get her to stop going outside the boxes. The excessive meowing did not stop in any of the cats.

  • First-time user

My 2 cats had to be boarded for the first time ever. They don't even like car rides, and I knew being left in a strange place would be even worse. I put the collars on them the day before we left. They were still difficult the next day about being put in the carriers. They still whined and complained during the car ride. When we arrived at the boarding place, which was a large room with lots of cat furniture and toys--and other cats--one of my cats left the carrier and started roaming around. The other one stayed in his carrier, terrified. I felt so bad for him. When I came back for them 4 days later, my older female cat was doing fine, but my boy cat was hiding in a corner, facing the wall. So I'm not sure how much the collars helped the situation, but I think it may have been worse without the collars. I will use them again next time I travel, although my cats will stay home and have a pet sitter visit once a day, like usual. I'm not sure I'd want to try boarding Tony again.

  • Well worth the price.

I was impressed by these collars! I've used one now on my kitty for a little over 10 days and she is doing better than I expected. She was stressed over another cat I brought in a little over a year ago, but it seemed her anxiety had increased recently. She was constantly chewing on her tail; it was losing fur and becoming scabby! :o o.O I could see a difference in her demeanor within a couple of days after placing the collar on her; she was calmer and seemed happier. Her tail is better, so obviously she is not over-grooming it like before. She even seems a little less hostile around the other cat. I do recommend purchasing this collar; just give it time to work, maybe a few days to a week at least.

  • Great product, way over priced

Product has worked great for us, However, the price has skyrocketed and is rapidly becoming unaffordable. Other alternatives, should they become available will seriously be considered. Also, once this animal passes, we will not be using it again.

  • Sentry Calming Collar for Cats -

These collars are great and work very well beginning as soon as you put it on the cat. I've been using them for years on those of my cats who require calming and/or need to feel more secure. Depending on the severity of the cat's behavior issues, a collar can last longer than 30 days. However, the previously feral young cat (now strictly an indoor cat) that I'm currently using them for does need a new one about every 4 weeks. We call it his "Good Boy Collar!"

  • Helps my kitty

I use these calming collars for my 14 year old calico who has become more nervous and skittish over the years. She is afraid of most everything and spends her life in her special sleeping place on the back of the couch. As long as she has a calming collar on, she will come lay by me and socialize on a small basis with others. While it doesnt take away all her anxiety, it does help quite a lot. As long as it calms her somewhat and keeps some of her anxiety down, i will continue to use them.

  • Saved my sanity!

I have a kitten that is absolutely psychotic. I've had them throughout my life, but never quite like her! 24/7 on the go action and constantly into everything tearing things up and terrorizing my other pets. I was honestly about to do something I've never done before. Give up and rehome her. I stumbled across a group thread where someone suggested someone else tries this collar. So of course I researched it. After reading so many reviews I had little hope, but still had to try. She's sweet, just crazy. I don't want to give up on her yet I still want my other pets to be safe as well as my home and belongings not destroyed. Let me tell you....immediate difference! Yes, there is an odor from it. It's really not bad though and I'm exceptionally sensitive to smells. It's made exactly like a flea collar, so no, it's not breakaway. Just use it the same as you would a flea collar. Within 10 minutes of having it on her she was actually laying on the couch next to me. She never did that. Not more than a couple of minutes anyways. Don't get me wrong. She's still a kitten and has psycho kitten modes. Just not constant like before. Now she's more like a normal, average kitten. I'm happy. The other pets are happy. Even the b/f took notice that she was much more sweet and calm now. This thing literally saved us. I was at my wits end. It's been a few weeks now and still seems to be working just fine. I'll be sure and keep them on hand and recommend to anyone with a psycho cat/kitten...

  • Caused injury

cats should have breakaway collars, as they are climbers and could get caught on something and hang themselves. My cat decided in the middle of the night to remove his collar, he got it caught in his mouth. I found him bloodied, with scratches all over his face, and swelling in the mouth. He was beyond stressed. I was able to catch him, cut off collar. We had to go to the vet for antibiotics. The vet said this collar should only be advertised for dogs, who are not as agile as cats in getting themselves into trouble like this. The vet has seen similar injuries when cats wear non-breakaway collars for any reason.

  • Smells great!

This product really helps with the anxiety my cat has. Stops the incessant licking and biting which caused hair loss, and stops the crying at the door and trying to run out. Unfortunately it hasn't made her a nicer kitty to company.
