Fun to watch and great seeing the natural beauty of that part of England.
Based on the two movies, the series main character is slightly different. It is typical British small-community comedy where everyone knows everyone else's business. Doc Martin is a special, consistent character. My family had fun watching it and we look forward to watching it again. Excellent entertainment that takes you to a place you never want to leave.
After watching Doc Martin for the first time on PBS this year...we were hooked. Everything about the series is addicting and makes you want to visit (live) in Portween and be a part of the quirkly community. The show has a great story line of Dr. Martin who is a brilliant doctor who is plagued with very poor social skills. The acting is superb. One can see the internal conflict as he struggles with a great difficulty in forming friendships. Dr. Martin is a wounded child due to his parents who were cold and detached. Throughout the show, the wounded inner child is struggling to break through the defensive posturing. Other characters in the show are complex and quite interesting. This British series of seven seasons following two 90 minute movies has consistency in the writing and actors. Although Doc Martin starts as an Ob Gyn in the movies , the writing allows him to transition into a vascular surgeon with blood phobia but no change in personality. Martin Clunes is consistent as the rude and Asperger's like middle aged single man in a small village who learns all his weaknesses and strengths. Love the story line. As a former nurse, I can say Doc Martin typified the surgeons I worked with: poor people skills, arrogant, uncooperative. The rest of the village characters are both humorous and yet like people we know. It's real life: challenging, funny, painful and exposing both our frailties and short-comings.
