From one of the innovators in hard drive technology, model number WD3200BPVT is designed to be fast, portable, and last a long time. It runs cool, consumes power efficiently, and has ample capacity. In fact, this drive provides enough room for more than 5,000 hours of digital music and more than 100,000 digital photos. It’s a great choice as a laptop upgrade or replacement, and you can also use it as a storage solution for your own custom computer builds.Western Digital has configured the WD3200BPVT for the laptop form factor. It’s a 2.5-inch internal HDD that measures 9 by 6.3 by 3 inches and weighs about 8 ounces. Since these drives are quite thin, they can slide into the small installation areas that notebooks allow. Be mindful that just because this is a laptop hard drive doesn’t mean that it’s only suitable for laptops. Many video game consoles, desktop PCs, and other consumer electronics that use drives utilize this form factor as well. Some desktops have 2.5-inch drive bays, or you can choose to use an adapter. Using this hard disk externally is also an option with a hard drive enclosure that’s configured for 2.5-inch SATA drives.The Scorpio Blue uses the SATA II interface, which operates at a maximum throughput of 3 GB/s. Serial ATA is generally both backward- and forward-compatible. You can connect it to a SATA III interface without issues. A SATA I interface will work as well, but the maximum throughput will be 1.5 GB/s. The power connector is standard Molex. For most notebook installations, this connection simply snaps into place. For a desktop PC, the Molex connection comes from the power supply unit to the drive. For an enclosure, power may come from USB or an AC/DC adapter, but Molex will still be used internally.The rotational speed on the WD3200BPVT is 5400 RPM. This unit also features an 8MB cache, which serves as the buffer between the hard drive and the system. An 8MB cache is an ideal size for 320GB HDDs to ensure optimal efficiency. In other words, a larger cache wouldn’t allow the HDD to pass through more information faster. The average seek time is 12 milliseconds, and the average latency is just 4.2 milliseconds. This drive can be fully operational from idle or the power-off state in under 10 seconds. This product is also built with ShockGuard technology, which helps ensure optimal read and write speeds and head wear.The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB HDD is available in OEM packaging. The OEM type, also known as bare bones, comes with only the product itself. If you purchase an OEM version, note that that software is also available directly from the Western Digital website. Whether you want to store your photos or upload your MP3 files, this Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB hard drive will provide you with lots of storage space.
