When the English Aliens Came
The English music invasion were the best of times in America. This album is a time machine to the "when" America was a nation of do'ers. A world United to accomplish Peace and Love. Not to marvel at the Stars, but to go there, Not a era of welfare and the present day culture music has little messaging besides violence and murder towards the very organization's that are the enforcers of the Republic's Laws. This musical time machine signs about soul and the greatest of virtues. This was the period when America was at a height of feeding the world with only 300,000,000 AMERICANS. When Africa was starving the Moody Blues were there exposing the virtues of personal contact and an open hand.....not a hand out and then bomb the American Embassy and hijack the airplane that feeds you. As good on stage as in the studio
As a recent convert to the wonderful Moody Blues, I did wonder about the comments regarding the band's ability to re-create their lush studio sound on stage. Having heard their Isle of Wight live album, I began to wonder, but 'Caught Live + 5' shows them at their brilliant best. Whilst the latter album is a lot of fun, it was recorded at an open air festival, with an unfamiliar PA system, 'Caught Live + 5' captures the Moodies playing with their own sound system, road crew and the wonderful acoustics of the venue, the Royal Albert Hall in London. The instruments are clearly audible, the vocal harmonies are tight and the performances are, simply, spot on. Yes, the Moodies could and did do justice to their studio creations and, of course, Mike Pinder's ... Moody Blues Caught Live +5 Completes Collection
For years, everyone wondered when The Moody Blues to come out with a live album encompassing their fantastic body of studio work; "Caught Live +5" does exactly that. The sound is very clear and the selection of songs is right on the money. An interesting thing about this album is the fact that the British crowd is very polite and well mannered in 1969 unlike a lot of live albums out back then and today. If there was one thing I would change on the album it would be to eleiminate the five studio songs added at the end. The Moody Blues, at first blush, would appear to be a band that would never be able to duplicate their lush, romantic, classical-rock music on a 'stage atmosphere.' This cd was recorded in 1969, but not released until 1976, before the 'Octave' cd. Their catalog consistented of Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord, and On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children. Yet, astoundingly, the band made an effect statement 'live' with a huge theatrical soundtrack to to their best early material. I recently listened to this cd again, and was struck by the great timelessness of this cd: it has an infectious bubbling enthusiasm by the band: still fresh and excited from doing major tours. As a normal part of the ... The Moody Blues, at first blush, would appear to be a band that would never be able to duplicate their lush, romantic, classical-rock music on a 'stage atmosphere.' THEY DESTROYED THERE SONG FOR THE NEXT TWO ALBUMS. WHEN THEY REFORMED EARLY EIGHTIES THEY MADE THIS ALBUM WITH FIVE SONGS THAT THEY DESTROYED. A MUST FOR ALL MOODY BLUES FANS.
