Unfairly downgraded
I think the folks that don't like these fall into two categories: (1) Didn't read or follow the instructions, or (2) Grizzled old machinists who say "I can do just as good a job with my shop grinder". For the rest of us who are reasonably careful and don't want to spend time learning to sharpen bits manually, on our (non-existent) shop grinders, the Drill Doctor is great. I went through a box of old bits, sharpened them all on this machine in just a few minutes, and ended with a box of like-new, sharp bits... I really don't care exactly how it did it, but it certainly works! Upon opening, the unit gave an intimidating appearance that it might present a difficult process to sharpen drill bits. After following the directions/guide given on the supplied DVD, I found sharpening the bits rather comfortable to the point where it became easy.

saves me from having to keep buying more drill bits just because they are dull. if im in the middle of a job and the bit stops cutting i just take 3 minutes and resharpen it and keep going as oppose to having to stop and go to the store for a new bit.

Simple and efficient
Now instead of buying new drills when the old are broken or dull I sharpen. Very easy to use with minimal practice. Old drills cut like new. That boxful of old drills is now a boxful of sharp ready to use drills. When a drill gets even a little dull I put it in the drill doctor, sharpen, and it is ready to go in less than a minute. It's that easy.
