It makes listening to the music as loud as you possibly can, so much easier. Most every song has a different recording level, so for maximum volume, I turn the bass amp down all the way with this knob, then I turn the head unit up until maximum for the song and then turn the knob up for the bass amp, until it matches and has the best sound. The three little led's work as well
