Apparently, someone, somewhere, has used a "male" ruler (the object being measured is a lot shorter than the reality would otherwise demonstrate). Advertised diameter was supposed to be 17.4in, ACTUAL diameter was 14in. IN FACT... is says 14" right on the manufacture's box! So... not a mistake, more likely a deception gambit.
