The God Makers was a book I had heard of and was interested in reading. I have several Mormon friends and was interested in hearing about their religion from a Christian point of view. The book, written by an ex-Mormon, was quite informative. It was extremely biased in places, but overall seemed well thought out and accurate. The facts matched what I had learned from other sources. Some of the attempts to prove Mormonism as a cult or Satanic religion were weak, but that was more than made up for by the majority of arguments. The book was fairly easy to read--I read it mostly while rocking or nursing my baby. Perhaps this is not a book for a serious theologian, but for a lay person concerned for friends who are Mormons, this is an excellent resource.
It is an amazing story of what goes on behind closed doors. Many of my friends who were Mormon are not at this time. Makes me wonder why they call it a religion?
I read the professional reviews on amazon.com before buying this book. I found it to be exactly what I needed to teach church lessons on cults.
