Synopsis
Presenting a thrilling new voice in children's literature-a witty, gripping adventure story featuring a boy and his not-so-tame djinni. Nathaniel is a young magician's apprentice, taking his first lessons in the arts of magic. But when a devious hotshot wizard named Simon Lovelace ruthlessly humiliates Nathaniel in front of everyone he knows, Nathaniel decides to kick up his education a few notches and show Lovelace who's boss. With revenge on his mind, he masters one of the toughest spells of all: summoning the all-powerful djinni, Bartimaeus. But summoning Bartimaeus and controlling him are two different things entirely, and when Nathaniel sends the djinni out to steal the powerful Amulet of Samarkand, Nathaniel finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of magical espionage, murder, blackmail, and revolt. Set in a modern-day London spiced with magicians and mayhem, this extraordinary, funny, pitch-perfect thriller will dazzle the myriad fans of Artemis Fowl and the His Dark Materials trilogy. And with the rights sold in more than a dozen countries, and a major motion picture in the works, the Bartimaeus trilogy is on the fast track to becoming a classic.

The price was great and the seller communicated wonderfully and the item was packed well so it wasn't damaged during transit all A pluses in my book just took a little bit longer than I anticipated.

  • Fabulous read...

Harry Potter fans (12 to adult) would do well to take time away from re-reads of the 7 books and explore Stroud's fascinating and highly entertaining series. Jonathan Stroud takes us to a unique wizarding world in a 3 book series where the djinn (i.e. Bartimaeus) serve the wizards ("magicians" as he refers to them). Young magician, Nathaniel, is a more somber and ambitious character than the beloved Harry Potter, nonetheless intriguing and endearing in his own way. Principal character, Bartimaeus, is a wise-cracking djinni who (begrudgingly) accepts his subservience to the magicians and provides a bevy of comic relief throughout to an otherwise darker world than painted by Rowling (don't ignore the footnotes). The story only gets better, especially when we get to ...

  • The Amulet of Samarkand

This is a wonderful read, one that you can't seem to put down. You can't wait to read the whole series of three books. The decision to purchase this book was to see if my grandson would like it. This is a great book for children of either sex. It is one way for a child to stretch the imagination, which these days is rare to see a child do. If you like Harry Potter you will enjoy this wonderful series by Jonathan Stroud.

  • the amulet of samarkand

This was an awesome book. A wonderful read into the world of magicians and demons. A must read!!!! The writing on both the main charter and the veiw of his servant is an awesome role play. The subtext is quirky, accasionally insulting and humorous. Watching the relationship of everything going on a real page turner.

  • Great book, recommend it to anyone of any age.

Great book by Jonathan Stroud, really keeps you interested in the story, there are no boring parts. It is all breath-taking and fun.

  • arrived promptly

I bought this book for my teenaged granddaughter to read over the summer while visiting with me. She has finished it and appeared to like it. Thank you.
