The music by Neil Young was a reason to own this dvd all by itself. Murray and Boyle gave the recreation their best comedic shot even if Thompson himself was one tragic, twisted anti-hero down the line.

Bill Murray had the right idea trying to play Hunter S. Thompson, but his attempt was absolutely terrible. The story was incredibly boring and the script was korny. In my opinion Bill Murray and Peter Boyle eventually became incredible actors years later, but at that time they hadn't developed yet.

Whether your a fan of Mr. Bill Murray or Hunter S. Thompson, this is a definite must have for any movie enthusist. Good laughs, excellent acting, and of course good writing seeing as how Mr. Thompson aided in the story. I knew I recognized Lazlo(Hunter's crazed lawyer) who is played by Peter Boyle and it was very interesting to see the man when he still had hair(well....) and smarting off to others besides the Romano clan. You must have this placed next to Fear and Loathing if you don't already. Don't be a part of the underestimators, ADD THIS!!
This is a great story about the late great Hunter S. Thompson. It was made way befor Jonny Depp ever heard about Hunter Thompson. Bill Murry pulls off the Thompson role very well. The voice, jestjers, and mindset are performed to perfection! I did not see this film untill after I had allready watched the new movie, so the story line was fresh in my mind. This movie has many changes in the story, but will not dissapoint you. A twist on his loyer changes the way their relationship is portraid. I strongly advise you to watch this great film if you enjoy the Hunter S. Thompson saga.
It is neck to neck as far as how the two versions of Hunter S. Thompson's book fare. No winners. A continuous limbo depending on what one thinks of Johnny Depp or Bill Murray at the moment in time. But this is the one instance which really justifies the word, "readthebook". Along with "Fear And Loathing On The Campaign Trail", if I recall the title correctly, "...in Las Vegas" shows Hunter at his best. Readthebooks. But hell, read "Hell's Angels" as well...and see the Depp & Murray movies by all means.
