Her parents recently divorced and her mother decided to start fresh in Waves. Beth finds life in Waves a lot different from her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Beth quickly meets Waves resident Jeromie Greene and his friends Cara, Gayle, Jody, and Doug. Jeromie falls in love with the new girl, but Beth's past threatens to ruin her present and her future. Beth learns to adjust to her new life and make the best of it. Choices are made with only the present in mind, and some of those choices have consequences that no one can foresee. Some of the consequences will shake their young lives for a long time to come.
