    One of the best hunting blades out there

    I'm always on the look out for a good hunting knife, usually cycling between the Gerber Gator and the Mountain Lion from Schrade's Old Timer line. The Hen & Rooster HR001, however, gives them both a steep run for their money. It comes in a beautiful package with a great leather sheath, and is one of the most comfortable fixed blades I've ever held. Considering this knife was less than $40, I can't find any faults here at all. It swiftly became a personal favorite of mine, and will likely be on my belt this coming hunting season and many after it.

    Value and Quality Come Together

    The blade is as pictured, a full tang, flat grind, drop point. The spine is a bit more robust for a knife of this size. The steel is hard (I don't know the specifics) enough that it will hold an edge under sustained use, but soft enough that it can be sharpened with a common Arkansas stone. The handle is smaller is mircata and smaller than most, but I found that to be desirable trait. The sheath is a poor quality generic leather economy design. I still gave the knife a 5 star review despite this because the knife is what I'm buying.

    Great knife!

    The blade grind is just what I wanted. High flat grind. The handle is a bit clunky, but I've removed the scales and reworked it. Fits like a glove now. Fun project. Thanks!
