This book is, I believe the first comprehensive guide on Copper Jewelry. I bought my copy at the Modernism Show in Detroit, Michigan several years ago, directly from one of the authors, Burkholz. He signed my book. COPPER ART JEWELRY A DIFFERENT LUSTRE will provide wonderful photos, descriptions and history. The content includes Rebajes, Renoir, Matisse, unsigned and much more. The history of early contemporary style jewelry from Rebajes' 1930's to kit-made jewelry made by average people during the 1950's is described. There is a price guide at the back but they do reflect high-end or high market prices. There are other costume jewelry books with a few pages of copper jewelry. These books only provide a small glimpse into the copper jewelry world. I believe there is another totally copper jewelry book which came on the market a few years ago. I cannot comment on that one. I do recommend this book for help with identification and for gaining much greater knowledge.Read full review
If you're interested in vintage copper jewelry you must have this book! Although the text is very informative, it would be worth buying the book for the 300 color photographs alone. They are of extremely high quality and cover the complete range of each maker's work. The book also includes photographs of the various signatures used by each maker during different time periods. Almost the entire book is devoted to Rebajes, Renoir, Renoir/Matisse and Matisse. I wish that the relatively short section on other makers were longer and included more makers. For example, there is no mention of either Bell or Nye. The four-page price guide is not very helpful, partly because the format is not very useful but mainly because the book was written in 1992 so the price guide is understandably way out of date. Nonetheless, there is no question that Rebajes and Jerry Fels of Renoir and Matisse are the true masters of copper jewelry and the book is an excellent source on their work and therefore "must reading" for anyone who is interested in this subject.Read full review
I just love this book! I have collected copper jewelry since the 1970s, and it was so exciting and gratifying to see that I have many of the Renoir/Matisse and Rebajes pieces pictured in the book. This book will be a continuing source for information for me, I read the whole book in one evening! Great bookseller! Thanks!!
