RUTLAND Refractory Cement is an ideal high-heat cement for masonry joints 1/4″ or less. Pre-mixed, easy to trowel, and fiber reinforced, this cement can be used to set, bond, and repair cracked or broken firebricks in stoves, fireplaces, and furnaces as well as for building fireplace boxes. Its thick, smooth consistency makes this cement perfect for use as a mortar between firebricks as well as to build fireplace boxes.
This was listed as a material to repair a ceramic grill such as a Big Green Egg. Mine was broken and I was excited to see a material that was supposed to be good to repair it. Followed all the instructions and heat treated the repair after spending 2 days cementing everything back together. After allowing time for setting, I attempted to cook with. All went well until time to put the grill up. The cement crumbled into powder and my little “humpty-dumpty” was back in pieces again. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
i reviewed multiple products before ordering, looking for mortar type material that could be used in fireplace joints. unfortunately, the product is not as advertised. (silica base & cement) it is a gelatinous goop that may be suitable for gaskets and pipe connections, but cannot be used to repair joints in firebrick as I had anticipated. and the tan color has no resemblance to mortar or cement. I cannot use it.
