About this product

Product Information

Regarded by many as the best Western ever made, STAGECOACH shot John Wayne to stardom and elevated the prestige of a genre that had hitherto been considered a B-movie province. With rumors in the air of a possible Apache attack, a motley group of travelers in a small New Mexico town board the Overland Stage bound for Lordsburg. Among them are the pregnant Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt); timid liquor salesman Peacock (Donald Meek); Hatfield, an aloof gambler (John Carradine); Gatewood (Berton Churchill), a pompous, embezzling banker; and two who have been exiled from town, alcoholic Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) and Dallas (Clair Trevor), a lady of the evening. Along the trail, they pick up the Ringo Kid (John Wayne), an outlaw who's escaped from prison to take revenge on the Plummer brothers for destroying his family and framing him for murder. As their journey progresses, the hypocrisy of the supposedly respectable passengers becomes clear, and it's the tainted outsiders who display courage and humanity. Described by Orson Welles, who watched the film innumerable times before making CITIZEN KANE, as his cinematic textbook, STAGECOACH is superbly made in every respect, layering humor and sharp characterization into an exciting plot that includes a spectacularly photographed chase in Monument Valley.

    Stagecoach to Lordsburg!

Stagecoach is a Classic Western, as well as a Classic Movie. It is directed by John Ford and is the movie that made John Wayne a star! Wayne is the Ringo Kid whom the Sheriff is bringing into town for trial. The other passengers are a varied group, some of whom were forced to leave town because of their lousy reputation Thomas Mitchell plays the alcoholic doctor, and Claire Trevor plays a prostitute. Also riding is Louse Platt, a pregnant woman hoping to rejoin her Calvary husband. John Carradine portrays a gambler with a mysterious past, plus a few other shady characters. These passengers have to face the long arduous journey and an Indian attack. The action doesn't end there, as there is a huge gunfight at the end! Avoid the remakes!

  • Well Worth Your Viewing Time

I had heard about this movie for many years, but had never seen it. I knew it was a classic and highly rated. Finally got around to viewing it and was not disappointed. I enjoyed every minute of this wonderful and amazing film, that took me away to another world where things made some kind of sense to me ( unlike the bizzarro world we're living in now). Definitely would recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates great film making.

  • The truth of movie collecting.

I have always been a great John Wayne fan. Being so, I have a great knowledge of the man and his life. He, as so few other actors, was a man who just played himself! The movie "Stagecoach" was the movie that really launched his career. He played many earlier movies but people really noticed him in this movie because of the character and personality he percieves. It seems that after thios movie John Waynes career just skyrocketed. I had hoped that this movie that i purchased, would be new, and in condition that i could keep on collecting. I found it to be just that. In stores this film at best is a used film and i refuse to buy any of those. You never know the real condition, unless played and than if it is faulty it is too late. I liked this because it was never opened, and I didn't have to ...
