rubber is solid, just like shoe heel rubber. It's real rubber. I would not want to get petroleum products on it or leave it in the sun. there is enough rubber that I can cut the groove deeper. It fit my small 2 ton jack after I removed one of the jacks pivot cups and should work well to jack on cars where the lift point is on body panel seam.
