The Wii's first basketball game is designed for users of all skill levels. The Family Play mode simplifies the five-on-five action by letting the computer handle the AI for both NBA teams, leaving players free to jump in at any time to shoot the ball, attempt a steal, and more. The default rookie difficulty setting offers more scoring chances and more forgiving controls. Advanced users will still be able to enjoy complete control over the game, with the added benefit of gesture-based motions inspired by real-life basketball. Shooting, for example, involves lifting the Wii Remote up and flicking it forward at the peak of a player's jump. Rebounding uses the same mechanic, while crossover moves involve tilting the Nunchuk left or right. <br><br>NBA Live 08 on Wii also incorporates Mii characters, who will periodically chime in to provide feedback on your hoops skills. Party-type options include the competitive Slam Dunk Contest and 3-Point Shootout games. One of the key features in other versions of NBA Live 08 is available for Wii as well: go-to moves, which incorporate each star athlete's signature-style shots on offense. Team-specific tendencies, such as Detroit's preference for half-court sets, have been worked into the game, and new systems are introduced to manage substitutions and fatigue. Also included are the FIBA National teams and online support, where up to eight players (four per Wii console) can challenge each other with a choice of teams, arenas, and rules.

NBA Live 08 for Wii better than "expert gamer" reviews.
Yes, the controls to shoot/block shots and steal the ball with the Wiimote are not always accurate. However, this game is fun. Bought it cheap to begin with ($17.00) and it STILL has online play. AND it is FUN. I love the "block" sound that eminates from your Wiimote when you swat someone's shot. I love double-teaming in the backcourt and intercepting passes. I love attempting to get the "touch" on the freethrows with a cruddy shooter (a Wiimote flick forward at proper speed does the trick). This game is unlike all of the other versions on the Xbox 360 and PS3 because it is a Wii! I've been playing video game systems since about 1978 (remember "pong" and the "Atari 2600?") and this is just another specimen of great and innovative gameplay on the Wii. Older model receives HIGH markings!!!!
Although this is the 2008 version of NBA Live, it has such great animations. The players are very realistic & it's easy to play. This year was our sons first year to play real basketball, and this game really helped him to learn the little things that you just have to experience yourself rather than to be taught by a coach. We purchased this for Christmas '09 and were not a bit disappointed in it not being the '10 version.Although this is the 2008 version of NBA Live, it has such great animations. The players are very realistic & it's easy to play. This year was our sons first year to play real basketball, and this game really helped him to learn the little things that you just have to experience yourself rather than to be taught by a coach. We purchased this for Christmas '09 and were not a bit disappointed in it not being the '10 version.

Great Game with lots of staying power
The choice of players and of teams were great. The realism of play was good and the graphics for play on the Wii were good. I liked the All Play option as it gave newbes a chance to start playing right away and move on to the more in depth play as they were ready.it was good to have several choices for typ[es of play like one game or an entire season. I would recommend this game to any Wii owner. It is as good as the 2009 version at a much lower price.The choice of players and of teams were great.
