I am not a pro but I do know what sounds good. This mic, in my opinion is pretty versatile. It performs well for vocals and instruments. I wouldn't use it for bass amps but for guitar amp - it's pretty good. All around, it's pretty darn solid (especially for the price). I use 2 of them as room mikes (one mounted high and one low) and they really fill in the sound. If you're looking to start off with a large diaphragm mike that can do a lot of things well - get one of these. It isn't "great" at anything, but it's pretty good at lots of things. The build quality is good, the clip is lame. With a decent preamp and a little board/mix tweaking, you can get very nice vocal results. I use no effects procesing for guitar amps - and this mike seems to deliver what I like soundwise. I don't use it for drums but I think I can safely safe it would perform pretty well as an overhead in front of the set. All in all, for the money, it may be the BEST value in a microphone you can get. That's why I have 2. I recommend this for general purpose use. Good, but not great at just about anything you can throw at it. Just sayin' - Hope it helps.Read full review
I've only used this microphone for a few days... but first blush, I LIKE it! I have a much more expensive dynamic mic that I have always used for my voiceover work... I wanted to try a condenser mic without spending a LOT of money and since I was installing other M-Audio equipment, I decided to give the Nova a try. The sound is much more "crisp" and very clean with what I would describe as a "more live" sound. By comparison, my dynamic is more bassy and as my wife even says, a little more hollow. What really surprised me is that it didn't pickup a lot of 'vibration' through the standard mount that comes with it.... not nearly as much as my other mic. Yes, if I thump the mic stand, you hear it, but no hum transmitted from equipment through the stand to the mic. And it is not nearly as sensitive to "across the room" noise as I might have thought... Good pickup pattern directly in front of the mic. I added a metal pop filter in front of it and it sounds quite nice... although, I do notice that it can be easily overloaded, so easy on the preamp volume. I won't be throwing out my dynamic anytime soon, but I am certainly looking forward to using this Nova condenser mic. For the price I got it, a great buy!!!Read full review
You'll love this mic except the XLR on it is a bit tight even with a quality cable. In a nutshell it sounds very very good, to the point that many people have asked me what I used on a particular vocal or acoustic track. I'd wager it won't last like my Neuman's AKG's or Sanken high line mic's...but for $100 it will truly impress the trained ear...you've nothing to lose..get one and be happy.

If you dream of a Neumann U88, then here's your chance to own a mic that sounds really close to it for a fraction of the cost. I've used this mic on countless tracking sessions and I've had seasoned mix engineers ask me what mic I used. When I tell them they're genuinely blown away. The only hangup I have with it are there's no rolloff button to tame boomy voices... But you can set up an eq on the input channel on your DAW to fix that. If your looking for a great mic at a low price, this is one of the top 5 IMHO.
