This pond de-icer keeps my little pond ice free. It floats nicely and has a longer cord that comes out of the bottom of the unit whereas a previous one came out the side and made the unit dip exposing the element. The longer cord allows me to place the unit in the center of the pond and the cage around the element is a plus. My goldfish like it, too. I see them around it during really cold days like planes at a terminal. Great piece. I would recommend it.

Not so much used to keep pond water warm as to keep a hole melted in the ice to allow toxic gasses to escape. Pre set to only come on when temperatures are below freezing. Can be placed in bottom of ponds or use the included float ring. Long UL rated cord.

First one would not shut off. Second one keeps 190 gal pond at 50 degrees. Specs say its suppose to be just above freezing. 40 deg. would be better for fish so you don't have to feed them as much in winter.
