All 4 computers were functional, one had a minor defect on its built-in storage that I could bypass by booting from a USB stick. I was able to install Ubuntu Server on all 4 machines. Mission accomplished! Note that there is no power adapter included, ideally you buy a 5V 3A USB-C power adapter and a Female USB-C to Male 4.0 x 1.7 mm barrel connector adapter.

These were sold as parts only and indeed over 1/2 were in working condition - replacing the 8gb EMMC chips with 32 gb EMMC's cost about $7 and really added to the value of the computer. Good prompt shipping - happy camper.
