Journey back to 50 B.C. in this adventure starring the popular French cartoon character Asterix the Gaul. After Caesar ordered his soldiers to capture Getafix and Dogmatix, Asterix and his portly pal Obelix decide to free their friends. However, in order to reach them, they'll have to journey through six locales spanning multiple levels: Gaulish Village, The Roman Encampment, The Forest, Germany, Roman Galley, and Rome. <br><br>While players can choose either character to complete a level, both have similar jumping, crouching, and punching moves. There are also various potion bottles that will grant Asterix or Obelix powers like throwing explosive capsules, creating cloud platforms, or becoming invincible. Passwords are available after each area so players can resume the comic adventure at a later time.

    Too hard to play

    The cartridge itself was very clean and well preserved but the game is too hard to play, difficult to enjoy. I don't know how we used to play this game back in the day.

    Challenging game with endearing graphics and sound

    This isn't an easy platformer, largely due to the time limits and problem solving required to advance certain levels. The controls aren't as tight as I'd like, with distances (especially for attacking) hard to judge. It takes some getting used to, but once you do, the animations, environments, and level design are enough to keep you engaged. My kids love watching me play, and I'm sure we'll stick with it until I beat it.

    Great game, the only of its kind to make it to the States

    Asterix is a super popular French cartoon. There were numerous video game release for NES, SNES & Sega sold in Europe- THIS WAS THE ONLY VERSION EVER SOLD IN THE USA. Game play is good, if simple. Not terribly difficult to beat but certainly worth having in the collection.

    Not as bad as they say!

    This games gets a bad rating from a lot of folks but I say not so. Yes it is a side scroller and each stage is short but the game is fun, fun, fun! No it's not "Secret of Mana" or "Chrono Trigger" but the graphics are bright, colorful and true to the comic strip! Sorry, but I liked this game and you might too.
