In California the weather is mostly hot but the mornings can be cool. I like to wear sweats so these give me the best of both. Also I prefer the flat drawstring over the rounded due to its easier to tie and won’t be pulled into the waist area and get lost. Most of the fleece shorts also have issues with loose thread all over the place. So if you get fleece shots make sure you cut the loose threads (don't pull them).

I'm a 6'5 man who weighs in at 305 lbs and only wears a 40 waist size. These are really for 40 to 42. I ,recommend them differently. I wish they had more then 4 color .........
