Sharper than the proverbial razor, the images this lens produces will please ( and shock ) even the most discriminating photographer. There is even room for a tripod support ring, if wanted, to ensure those engaging in 1:1 image reproduction maintain the sharpness this lens is capable. If one wants to handhold and forego a tripod, the built-in IS works VERY well. One thing included in this lens design is weather sealing, which, in MHO, is more desirous than image stabilization. When using this lens in a tropical location, temperate rainforest, or even a shore setting, this latter feature is of utmost importance. Simply add a UV filter to the front element and you are ready to go in less than perfect conditions. Due to these features and it inherit sharpness, this lens is the ' Ayatollah of Rock n' Rolla '. Easily a solid ' 10 ', or 5 out of 5 stars. Read full review

Excellent lens..no complaints. The manual focus operation is best for extreme closeups. Automatic focus shifts in and out of focus with the inevitable minute movement of the camera or the subject. With patience and a careful eye there are many more opportunities for interesting pictures not available to the photographer with a standard lens. This lens produced more results than I was expecting.

Pros: Super sharp Macro lens! Awesome image quality! Amazing bokeh! Very lightweight! (Minor) Cons: AF has 3 distance modes which can be cumbersome at times. AF at short focal distances tends to "wander" when not using a tripod (but this is common with this type of lens.)

The lens gives a nice sharp image and the fact that is a fast lens makes it easy to photograph close up in lower light conditions. The focus is fast and very quiet. I would definitely recommend this lens!

This L lens is highly underrated. I think it's a must have and is an extremely useful lens. The focal length and close focusing distance is great for portraits and the image stabilization is top notch allowing you to photograph still subjects at 1/10 of a second.

This Lens does work fantastically. Amazing clarity and depth. I love it! However I have had a few Lens Communication errors using it. I'm using a fairly new Cannon 90D and have no other issues with any other lenses. Hopefully it doesn't become a problem. Other than that I am happy with this purchase! The attached pictures are some of the first pictures I took using this beast.

This was an excellent buy. Lsnse arrive in original box with everything you would receive if it was brand new. I took a chance was in the process of buying a new lense canceled and go this one and saved $200 and it looks brand new and functions like it is!!

I wouldn't give this lens a five star rating. A 7/10, It is a great lens, beautiful bokeh. I do like the option of switching your focusing lenghts. This comes in very handy when you are up close to your subject. Macro makes noise when focusing with AF extremely slow, you sometimes need to MF to get this lens to focus out after working closup with it. I have own other brands of macros and this one isn't good when using AF, manual seems to be the only way it really performs. As far as the new hybrid IS...well I am not impressed. I bought it hoping to be able to freehand shots like I do with my Sony macro, but sadly only about 20% of the images are clear. Handheld you get ghosting. I shoot with a 5DMKII. I think the other Canon macros maybe a better buy for the dollar based on what friends have told me. Is this lens worth the dollars...not really. Canon neeeds to step-up on the IS technology. Tripod is a must with IS off for this lens to get high ratings. But I do suppose if you are a guy with larger hands, you could benefit from this lens, as you may have the ability to hold it as steady to keep ghosting down. Wish I had rent one first before buying. When reading reviews on the web remember they are usually paid by Canon to review their product.Read full review
