As the first modern rythym game from Harmonix, it delivered the full band experience to players, with a well-balanced track list. The menu interface is too simple, and this simplcity leads to problems sometimes (for example: players that purchased a lot of songs from Music Store has no features to find easily an specific song). But generally the interface acceptable for the tasks demanded. Technically the game is not a masterpiece: the audio quality is just fine (not superb, but better than its competitor), graphics are not well-shaped (characters with simple sprites and a little overall grainy). But it seems these things are not vital to make the game do its job. This game was the beginning and allows everyone, regardless skill levels, interact in a deeper way with rock songs. And it's a nice party for family or friends on weekends.Read full review
i bought rockband 2 special edition. i couldnt play online with my friend because they only had rb1. so i bought rb1 because you can rip the songs to the ps3 hard drive. i thought that would be free to do but you have to pay 5$ at the playstation store for the ripping key code. since i bought the ripping code i also bought track pack vol 2 and it ripped those to the hard drive with out charging me again. i couldnt rip rb2 to the hdd but when i want to play any song i just put the rb2 disc in and all the songs show up. if you buy any of these games and plan to rip them you must get a copy that the code has not been used yet. after you rip the songs others can play your discs so you can sell them but because you used the code they wont be able to rip the songs to their hdd. i also bought the ps3 eye so i could talk to others when i play online. i also recomend buying the triple cymbal set for the rb2 drums they are hard to get used to but they make playing more fun.Read full review
This game is a whole lot of fun. My wife, daughter and I have been playing it heavily ever since I bought it. We're spending a lot more time together because of it. I purchased the game only and am using a USB microphone for the singing. I'm kicking myself now because I want to try the guitar, but the instruments are not going to be sold separately until sometime in February. The only con with this game is that the set list doesn't change in solo tour mode which can get repetitive. It also would be cool if the downloadable songs were randomly placed into the set list instead of being all grouped together. The best part of this game is playing online with other people, but that experience is sometimes marred by people dropping out because they aren't playing too good. All in all this game is completely worth the money and will be even more so once I get my guitar.Read full review
I originally bought this because I got Rock Band 2 for x-mas and wanted to export the songs into Rock Band 2. The song list is excellent, maybe even better than Rock Band 2's. The DLC (downloadable content) works for both games which was an unexpected plus. The gameplay is almost identical which is great and a ton of fun. I have to say I was disappointed with two aspects, though they are not dealbreakers. First the Tour Mode is not as extensive and seems more linear than Rock Band 2's glorious freedom, though it is still fun and definitely a serviceable campaign-style playing option. My second gripe, and for me the biggest, Paranoid cannot be loaded into Rock Band 2. My current real-life band is learning Paranoid and I thought this would be great practice for me to sing it and learn the arrangements while playing the game. But apparently if I want to play Paranoid (or a few other Rock Band 1 songs), I have to use the Rock Band CD and cannot play them in my Rock Band 2 sets. Bummer. Overall, it's a great game. I highly recommend Rock Band 2 over this, but I highly recommend the original Rock Band for it's excellent set list that can be used in Rock Band 2 (except Paranoid!!!!)Read full review
great fun of a game, most of the songs are good off the start with a large and growing library of downloadable songs but are a bit too expensive, make sure you like the song. drums are my personal favorite instruments, i don't play drums but real drums must be fun if it's like this. great online and at parties and you actually want to practice solo so you can show off later, careful though because is loud, instrument noise is with all the clacking and best played with stereo cranked so this is a mom/wife/neighbor piss-er off-er. only gripe is instrument quality, whammy bar did go limp but everything else holds up fine, even the dreaded drum pedal hasn't snapped but am going to reinforce it in case you have tipsy players. they will very readily send you replacements and without really that much of a hassle (you just have to send them something back) but the replacement guitar i got was a refurb, not brand new if that worries you. great game that really can't be faulted, well designed instruments but with their quality issues but an okay replacement program to make up for it.Read full review
