We now have an IROBOT on each floor of our house. Being a technical person I am fascinated by how well it is designed and how it works. It is a pretty darn smart machine and very impressive in how it works to find every corner of the room and negotiates it's way around objects. It clearly picks up some dirt, dust and hair (empty it after each use), but being a light duty battery powered machine it does not pack the vacuuming power of a full size upright vacuum. On the plus side, like many busy people, we don't get around to vacuuming as often as we should, so having this little bugger doing some maintenance vacuuming while we are away from the house is a big help. Like all vacuums with a rotating brush it does get hair and such wrapped around it which needs to be removed periodically, but the brush is very easy to remove for doing this task compared to a standard upright vacuum. You will also want to remove the hair (we recently added dogs to our household) from around the brush shafts, but again that is very easy with tweezers or a small pocket knife. Both of our units are used machines and I found I needed to pop the front roller out (again easy to do with a letter opener or screw driver) to clean hair from around it's shaft so it spins freely. The shaft can be easily pushed out of the roller if dirt/hairs have gotten inside the roller causing it to bind up. I have no idea how long these machines had been used by previous owners so don't know how fast this roller can get bound up. I don't expect this to be a regular maintenance task, but I will check to see if it spins freely every time I clean the brushes. All in all, we are happy with these vacuums. They are certainly more convenient than getting the upright out or dealing with the 30' central vacuum system hose. We have found some really good deals on ebay for these units, some well below $100.Read full review

This Roomba 650 needs to be developed further. DO NOT EXPECT IT TO REPLACE YOUR VACUUM. The best thing about it it cleans under the beds. So far it hasn't learned its way around the house. It may go back and forth numerous times covering the same area. However it does clean the carpet, ceramic and hardwood floors pretty good. It may be a little early making this determination as we have only used it about 12 times. The concept is good, the idea is great it just needs some more engineering work. So far it can't find the base easily and we have a 1 floor home. It's cost is substantial for what it does. It's a nice conversation piece. I bought it as a X-Mass gift, after my friend told me about it. He thought it was great. So I guess it's a matter of different opinions. How ever I don't know what his wife thinks. MY FINAL DETERMINATION AS OF 11-18-18 DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. NEEDS MUCH ENGINEERING.Read full review

The Roomba is great - when it wants to be! I love how you can schedule it to automatically clean and it goes around the open surfaces of our home. However, every 4-5 rounds it cleans for 10 minutes instead of an hour and doesn't even check every room. Of course, this can be managed by supervising it's cleaning run but my point of buying it was so that IT would do the vacuuming and I could work from home. When I notice this has happened, I put it in a room it missed, close all of the exits and hit "spot" and it will go around the room and heavily go over every area. This is particularly good on rugs when cleaning up the leftovers from our long-haired black cat. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase. It is easy to clean and lets you know when it needs help. It also knows its way back to its charger, assuming it has battery life, which is fun to watch. :-)Read full review

This is a refurbished unit. We also have a "new" unit of the same model. This one performs as well as the "new" model with one exception. The battery in the "new" model seems to last longer than the refurbished one. This one runs for about 1-hour +. It is quite easy to clean, which should be done after each use. This only takes about 5-minutes, or so. It's amazing how much dust, lint and dog hair it picks up, even immediately after our cleaning lady finishes for the day. It gets up close to walls and furniture, as well as into corners. I would recommend this unit for anyone with or without a pet to remove dust and/or pet hair between floor cleanings.

Fun to watch and easy to use. It does better than expected in cleaning surface dust and great under sofas, etc. I'm considering getting a newer more powerful model, but maybe not --the thing I like best about this is that it is simple..... press the button and it works. When the roller jams, its super easy to fix. It could be more powerful and that is supposed to be true of later models but they also feature clean phone apps.... harder to use.
