The phone is nice with lots of nice features that I enjoy. The battery life of my phone last me only two to three days, but I talk a lot on the phone. I got my girl friend the same phone and it seems little bit better than mine. So I guess it could be my battery is defective. I ad the 810i before and the reception was great and battery lasted longer. The reception doesn't seem to be as strong and consistant as the 810i. Sometimes it just get NO SIGNAL at all for no apparent reason. I have an aluminum case for it, but it shouldn't be causing problem for the reception... Overall, I really like the phone. The main things that I don't like about is the battery life and reception of the phone. I would say the phone is average.
I bought this phone cause at the time i didnt have an ipod...the sound is pretty good and can hold a lot of stuff like music, pics, and video. However it can be very delicate. If dropped it will break! If youre on a walk and wanting to talk to friends, USE THE HEADSET, it is very easily infected with moisture. As the phone ages the keys become difficult to text with. The camera is decent however i never could take a decent pictue of myself with it...not a good myspace bathroom picture phone! ;-P All in all its not too bad, however i drop phones like there was no tomorrow, and if youre like me, well, i think there are better phones on the market!
I love Sony Ericsson Phones. They have so many features on them that are actually useful. Plus they're durable as all hell. I had my w810i for years and kicked it around, dropped it, smacked it into walls and yet it kept playing. They're not overly bulky but I definately think they can work on that. The W580i slide mechanism is pretty nice. Although it does feel a bit awkward to use it. I wonder if that's why they made it this weird curved shape for better grip? Anyway, some very minor things I don't like about this phone are the inability to set an mp3 as a ringtone. I found that they only way I can do this is to get an mp3 editor and keep the file under 600kb . So you can only have a small snip of a song instead of the whole thing. The problem with this is if you want a lot of ringtones, they're all stored in the same places with your regular mp3's so if you have the walkman function playing on "Play all", it will play the ringtones as well. That's annoying. They really need to let you manage the files from the phone and not just on the computer. Plus if you try and put files on this phone without the supplied software, it screws up the phone. Pretty darn annoying. Another thing that is kind of strange about the phone is the charging connection pretty much sucks. If you don't have it on just right, it doesn't charge. You're stuck fiddling with it until it says "Charging" then you have to put it down delicately to not lose that connection, being careful not to look at it crosseyed or breathe on it wrong because it may jiggle lose and not charge. Yes I've missed work because I thought my phone was charging and it ended up dying mid night. My alarm clock is my phone so it's kind of annoying. Other than this the only complaint I can make is the lack of phone holsters that you can get for this phone that let you open the phone with the holster still attached. If you're any form of a texter, it gets annoying to constantly be removing the phone from it's holster to reply. This is mostly due to the odd shape of this phone. If you have or have seen the phone you'll know what I'm talking about. I've heard complaints of how close together the buttons are for texting but i don't seem to have any problems with that whatsoever. One thing though is that the 1 2 3 buttons are pretty close to the top of the phone where it meets the sliding mechanism and it leaves the top buttons a little hard to push. I could see this being a problem for some of you guys that have the massive sausage fingers. Other than these extremely small things I have to complain about, the phone works well. Maybe not as good reception as my w810i but nothing to complain about. They definately improved volume when talking on this phone over the w810i. This phone rings a bit louder as well which is great for all of us deaf people. I think the vibration function on this phone is weaker than previous Sony Ericsson phones in my past. But that's pretty much it. If you want a multimedia phone that you can take pictures, videos, play music, games, schedule things on your calenders and a ton of other random things (Like the built in pedometer which told me I walked 22 thousand steps at work which said is the equivalent of a 10.3 miles covered and gives calories burned!) This phone is quite amazing.Read full review
It was a cute phone with fun features like light effects and built in animations for text messages. However, be cautious about connecting to the browser when the phone is closed. If you send or read a text message and don't actually go back to the home screen and just close the phone it doesn't lock the buttons even though you have it set to lock upon closing. Very strange glich that took me a few days to figure out why the browser was on without me knowing about it. Also no dial or hang up button..confusing to use the back and clear buttons...and the actual buttons on the phone are very small and these 40 plus year old eyes really coudn't see the numbers even with the cool pink backlight. So I think this is an ok phone for younger girls but be really careful about that internet glich.
The SE 580 is a great phone. The slide action is cool and works much more smoothly than I've seen on similar models from other brands. Reception is awesome. Battery life is better than average. Looks awesome! The buttons are well laid-out making one-handed operation easy for using basic features (like making calls or choosing songs). The small keys, however, make life rough at times for someone with big hands like me. This is NOT a phone for folks that text endlessly. The goofy predictive text feature is a pain to work with and the little buttons ensure you press the wrong key regularly. I don't text, so this is fine by me. There are tons of phones out there for that purpose. This one is made to play music and it does its job well. The Walkman software is easy to use and the provided headphones sound decent. The phone really shines when connected to an external source, like PC speakers or the car stereo. You can jack it into any Ipod ready head-unit using the USB cable. Be sure to buy an M2 memory card to store you MP3s. There's not much room on the phone itself. Sony provides many free software applications making the phone easy to load files onto and the graphics easy to customize. The only problem I've had with this phone is its size. It's small, making it to easy to drop and lose. I'm on my 3rd now, having lost my first and dropped my second (it was then run over). I keep my latest in a skeleton holster (available here on eBay for cheap) and so far, so good. The hard part is fighting the temptation to just slip it into my pocket again... Lesson learned. I know many people who have been less than satisfied with their Sony phones, both older and newer models. I believe they got it right with the 580. I'll keep the one I have for as long as I can. When it finally quits or (more likely) I lose it again, I'll probably buy another.Read full review
I have always had Nokia cell phones for about 15 years and was always happy with them. Then I tried a few Motorola ones and was even happier with them. This time my daughter showed me her Sony Walkman W580i and I was very impressed. I had to have one. So, I went and bought one. I love this phone! The picture quality is superb and I really love the slide feature. It is so easy to use and I don't have to worry about locking the keys. I had to get used to the different menus but they offer so much that I haven't even taken advantage of everything yet. The sound quality is wonderful and I have NEVER had a problem hearing on any call. The fact that it takes a mini memory stick gives you unlimited room for MP3s, photos, etc. There are a few things I would like to see improved though. I would love to see them add a flash to the camera for taking pictures in darker places. Others have a flash so I know this can be done. Also, I would like more ring tones to come with the phone. One more thing is I have been told that the keys are a little fragile and may crack in the middle. I have not had this problem yet so I don't know about that. I don't do a lot of texting but I think this phone is not really good for people who text a lot. Overall, I am ecstatic about having this phone. I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone who is looking for a good phone at a reasonable price. It is really cute too! Especially the pink one. Both of my daughters plus myself now have this model phone. Go get one now!Read full review
I like this phone, I've had it for a couple weeks now. Battery life is ok. Others do complain about the battery life, but if you shut off bluetooth, walkman, pedometer, when not using it you should be fine. My bat life goes for 4 or 5 days, just on standby and light use. Less, if I use the walkman feature. I also cut the display brightness to 70%. What I like about this phone. The shake feature is pretty nice. I also like the fact that it can take a 8gb m2 card (micro memory stick). Sound is pretty good. Has bluetooth as I said before. What I don't like. To use the shake feature you have to press a button that's inconveniently located. The jogdial looks pretty flimsy time will tell how it holds up. Camera has no flash. The headphone/charging port is one and the same and they're nonstandard. In the phone book it just has you store a name in the text field, no first, middle and last name. All in all this is a pretty nice phone.Read full review
PRO: great battery life; i can go five days without charging with a few short calls a day(maybe because i lowered my brightness). easy to use. has functions that come in handy like the stopwatch, timer, even has a fitness function that counts the steps you take and how many calories you burned. have not had the chance to test the mp 3 function yet. neat function that can tell you the name of songs that are playing. can edit pictures and music. CON: there is a icon for remote control that has the bluetooth icon in entertainment, but the actual bluetooth is in settings. voice dialing, unlike other phones, must be set manually meaning you have to record all the names. there is always a border around my wallpaper no matter what i put up there.it seems like the speaker is kind of low, sometimes i have to turn the volume all the way up to hear the other person especially when there are other noises around. the camera on the phone is average(how good can it be on a phone?)but for some reason i cannot zoom. i says unable to zoom in this mode but i was in normal. i will have to look into that. phones has pretty good service everywhere i go. what i do not like about the att phones is that all of the games are demo and you can only play it for a few minute. wish it could have one game that was installed atleast( i wanted pacman!!!). also because the web browser button is on the front it is easy to press in accidentally when it is in your pocket or purse. overall this phone is great, i really like it but there are minor things that bother me. i have not have any major problems with the phone but then i have not had the phone for very long. i have had the phone for about a month so i cannot say what will happen in the near future.Read full review
This is a real user friendly phone especially when you hook it up to your computer, use the Sony Ericsson PC Suite and sync all your contacts messages calendar and more. Interestingly the W580i is very similar in size, shape and the outer casing to the S500i. As a matter of fact, all the internal parts can be swapped between the two and no one will know the difference until you switch on the phone. The 'W' which stands for walkman means that this phone is geared to be your music companion, like a mp3 player, that also makes and receives calls; cool. The camera is a real 2megapixel unit so taking clean pictures and using them in mms and your picture album is quite easy. If you really want to get the most out of the phone, install a 4gig M2 card and expand your music library up to the hilt. The phone is very sturdy and the slide is almost flawless: (don't test it by deliberately dropping it). As with all phones, don't get it wet. The screen size is comfortable enough while viewing to make out the smallest details. The SE headphones that come with the phone seem to be getting larger and larger ear pieces in comparison to what is sold on the market as "SE OEM head-sets". As a result I use the one with the soft earbuds and keep the original as a spare. In all this is a very handy phone and mp3 player with lots of features, at a competitive price.Read full review
I would like to thank Sony Ericsson for their best phone ever. 1. Absolutely, hands down, loudest phone ever. I ride four wheelers, and, even while riding, i can hear the phone, clear down in my pocket, wether it be while using the headphones) or my phone ringing, it is great! 2. The Fitness part of this phone is Amazing. There were other phones with this feature, but they're $200+! I used to see no point in it, but now that I have it, I use it constantly. 3. The fact that you can change the light, not only for times like listening to music, and just idle times, but also for custom profiles, when my family is calling, I can look at my pocket if it is on vibrate and see their color. This phone is great, but it wouldn't be worth a darn without the sliding function. 5. All the materials you'll ever need are included with this phone. USB, Headphones, Memory Stick (like a memory stick pro duo), Charger(of course), Owners Manual(of course), and a headphone adapter. 7. Astonishing Brightness. If you are in a zone where phones are prohibited (school, and some work places), you will want to turn this brightness way down. if you are txting or receiving a call while in that area, you are pretty much done for, you could see this thing beaming from 3 miles away! (hyperbole there folks.) 8. If you read these other reviews and see that txting is hard, and that turns you away, think again! It is quite easy to text after using it 3 or 4 times. Just takes some getting used to. 9. Get this phone, it is SO great! I love having it, and all my friends are amazed by it. So go for it! This phone is great!Read full review
