In Wes Anderson's THE LIFE AQUATIC, a group of oceanic explorers who call themselves Team Zissou embark on a journey to hunt down the "jaguar shark" that ate one of their crew members (Seymour Cassel). Determined to avenge the death of his dear friend, team leader Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) is melancholic about the journey he's about to make. Meanwhile, financial troubles and nostalgia for his past make Zissou behave like a reckless playboy, an aging softie, and a past-his-prime tyrant. Surrounding Zissou are a hodgepodge of eccentrics--a pregnant journalist doing a magazine feature (Cate Blanchett), an airline pilot from Kentucky who claims he is Zissou's son (Owen Wilson), an emotionally needy European (Willem Dafoe), an acoustic guitarist who sings David Bowie songs in Portuguese (Seu Jorge), Zissou's brilliant wife (Anjelica Houston), and her ex-husband who is Zissou's seafaring nemesis (Jeff Goldblum). Clad in baby-blue polyester uniforms, Addidas sneakers, and red stocking caps, Team Zissou is a sight to see. And as their deep-sea adventure takes them into dangerous waters where they are attacked by pirates and dazzled by CGI fish, the group finds magic both in their bonds to each other and in the colorful world around them.In keeping with Anderson's unique brand of escapist humor, these caricatured characters are nothing short of fascinating. Deserves to be seen more than once!
This is not a typical Bill Murray 'funny movie'(but then, what is typical for Bill Murray anymore?!); and it is not a put-down of Jacques Cousteau (sp?) or the Cousteau Society, as some have claimed. It is gentle yet interesting, sweet, but not sickening, and exciting with a minimum of blood. If you like subtle humor with smart, funny dialog and an unexpected ending you'll enjoy this film. Willem Dafoe's 'Klaus' is brilliantly done (as are the others, but Klaus is my favorite). Seu Jorge's renditions of David Bowie's songs are perfect for the film. As another reviewer said, this is not "The Royal Tenenbaums," but it's not supposed to be; it's not "The Darjeeling Limited" or "Rushmore" either. This is a fine film that stands on its own and deserves to be watched more than once.

The Zissou
Ghostbusting Bill Murray, what happened? I was so excited to see this movie and it came up incredibly short. I don't recall one significant humorous moment in the film. The clothing had so much promise too, bright colors, adidas shoes, and a glock for every crew member. The red beanie hats were the highlight of the movie. Other than that, settle in for a long two hours of boringly straight-faced Bill Murray.

Great music and entertaining characters
This movie has great music and it has very interesting plot and characters. I love the production and all of the scenery. Bill Murray is brilliant as well as most of the other charactors. Another great film by Wes Anderson.

A burst of nostalgic creative genius- with a Costeau focus! A let down for those who placed "The Royal Tenenbaum" on a pedestal, but non-disappointing to those who eager for ANY Wes Anderson Film. Bill Murray's dry humor and the ubiquitous faded color palette of the sea, make for an enchanting film.
