About this product
Product Information
Dark Sector is a futuristic shooter starring a character infected by a biological virus, imbuing him with mysterious powers. Black-ops soldier Hayden Tenno contracted the disease while on a covert mission to the fictitious Eastern European country of Lasria. Hayden's left arm has since mutated into something not quite human. Attached to this abnormal appendage is a three-blade glaive that can be charged and thrown at enemies or objects like a boomerang. Stunned enemies can then be finished off with well-aimed gunshots, or sliced open by using the glaive as a melee weapon. As Hayden struggles to find a way out of his predicament, the virus will gradually take over his body, granting him new abilities along the way. The action in Dark Sector is viewed from a third-person perspective set behind the lead protagonist's shoulder, with the screen free from heads-up displays in an attempt to draw players closer into the gritty, violent world. Online support is also included for ten-player competition over the PlayStation Network.

About This Game
Dark Sector
Rated M for Strong Language; Blood and Gore.
IGN SCORE 7.7
Dark Sector was released on March 24, 2009. It was developed by Digital Extremes and published by Aspyr for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
A modern-day superhero saga, Dark Sector is a third-person shooter where players assume the role of the protagonist, Hayden Tenno who gains the ability to morph into dramatically different combat forms. Set in the crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet-bloc country in the near future, the game features both single and multi-player action, with players working their way through a world where bio-weapons are no longer science experiments, but a hellish nightmare let loose on an unsuspecting populace.
Lacks story BUT offers plenty of enjoyable combat : )
Playing through the single-player game will make multiplayer a lot easier to pick up.
Visually, Dark Sector rarely fails to impress, though you'll occasionally stumble upon low-resolution textures while searching with a flashlight in darkened corners for pickups. Furthermore, it's a little jarring in such a realistic-looking world that your glaive frequently travels through walls on its way back to you, but then this is a game that really tests your ability to suspend disbelief at every opportunity, given the nature of its puzzles and the lack of storyline. The game's audio is also worthy of note, thanks to an original score that does a great job of letting you know when danger is present or past. Likewise, some really satisfying sound effects make the weapons feel powerful, the environments feel creepy and abandoned, and some of the enemies far more intimidating than they deserve.
Dark Sector isn't the next Gears of War, and it isn't a game that you should go into looking for a compelling story. You could certainly do a lot worse if you're looking for 10 to 12 hours of single-player action and some multiplayer kicks, though.
The frugal one says, buy it. Definitely worth a few weekends of fun. For more xbox 360 and playstation 3 ps3 video game reviews check us out at http://www.frugalfu.comRead full review
I bought Dark Sector as a joke for my brother for his birthday. I checked the cheapest ps3 game on ebay that wasnt a sport and the first to show up was Dark Sector. I must admit that I never heard of this game before buying it and so, I had no idea of what it was.
The cost(10$) was well worth the prize as this game is full of action and the use of the glaive is an innovative an very fun weapon. Of course, as everybody says, the story is lacking. Personally, I think this game was created in the idea of making a sequel/prequel that was never made.
Bottom line, if youre looking for a fun cheap game, go get it, but only for less than 20 bucks.
The Good
- The glaive is one of the most awesome weapons ever.
- Ability to upgrade weapons in the game to almost unstoppable.
- A lot of cool effects with good looking graphics, lots of enemies to kill, lots of places to take cover, lots of fire fights, and all with a nice creepy atmosphere.
- Feels a little like Resident Evil 4 at times
-Some fun boss battles are thrown in as well
The Bad
- Too much empty space.
- The game can be ridiculous at times when you die absolutely from out of nowhere.
- Not many weapons to choose from.
- Only a handful of people play online at all.
-Picking up stuff is tedious as well as having to search for it.
- Story line and acting is absolutely horrible.
The Verdict
Rent before you buy. There are a few hours of mindless fun in here. 3.5/5
There's not a whole lot to hate about this game, but here goes. The blood gushes when the glaive flies through the air and it looks great. The graphics are really dark, and by that I don't mean macabre-- I mean literally the screen is dark. I'd change up the options in the menu to lighten up the screen. The game is a must buy for fans of the genre, but I wouldn't pay more than 15-20 for it since it's one of the first generation PS3 games. It suffers from a little bit of jagged edges on the screen, which are a bit annoying at times. Also, sometimes it's a little frustrating to destroy things with the glaive, and as a result you'll have to do it a few times to get it right.
In short, though, this game's shortcomings are few and it is an enjoyable title.
A definite 8 out of 10.
