The House Without A Christmas Tree
I enjoy this movie because it is an older movie set in the late 1950's. It is about a time when life was much simpler, yet people were richer in their love for each other. Life wasn't about things, but about doing and caring. This movie touches me in much the same way as "The Walton's Christmas" story. They don't make movies like them anymore. I can relate to the older movies and know that growing up, my life was similiar to theirs. I bought this movie on ebay because I haven't been able to find it in the stores. The VHS movie was well worth the small amount I paid for it; the shipping was higher than the cost of the movie! It is just as good as I remembered it being and it's one of those movies that I will watch time and time again during the Christmas season.I enjoy this movie because it is an older movie set in the late 1950's. Good Movie, but it is a remake
I like the story line--a grumpy widower doesn't want to celebrate Christmas because of the memories he has of when his wife was alive. His mother and his daughter, especially, want to move on and to celebrate Christmas together as the family they are now. I won't spoil the outcome for those that may not have seen it yet. I knew the video was a remake when I ordered it, and that doesn't take away much from the movie, but it is noticeable, since I watched it several times as a child/teenager. This movie is an Excellent Movie. It is about a little girl who tries her hardest to get her widowed father to let her have a christmas tree. The father played by Jason Robards is a stubborn factory worker who lost his wife during the Birth of the little girl (ADDY), and has had a void in his life since the loss of his wife. He raised Addy as best as he could but could not persuade her from wanting a tree for christmas. In the end of the movie Jason understands that he had to go on living instead of at a standstill which has been the way he had been living. This film is a must-have for the Christmas season. The conflicts between a clever daughter and her hard-boiled dad bring tears and tenderness but not perfect resolution. The miracle is that the grade-school daughter begins to understand that Dad is a person, with his own hurts, his own past, and his own failings. Grandma is the grandma we all wish we could have around forever, and the holiday busyness of the girl Addy and her friends and classmates is entertaining and endearing.This film is a must-have for the Christmas season. The conflicts between a clever daughter and her hard-boiled dad bring tears and tenderness but not perfect resolution. The miracle is that the grade-school daughter begins to understand that Dad is a person, with his own hurts, his own past, and his own failings. A House Without a Christmas Tree (2001, VHS)
I remember seeing this when I was younger. I bought it to share with my kids now. My sons 3rd grade class watched it during a craft day for his teacher. All the kids enjoyed it especially the girls. A very heart warming story. I'm glad it isn't lost in an archive somewhere. I only wish I could find it in DVD.
