Picture quality is very good, and the unit functions well, though the remote and it's features come up short. The remote key layout was not thought out very well. Play button should be larger than the other keys, and there's no size button. My old player had a very handy feature for enlarging the picture, which is great for credits and viewing details in pause mode. As far as the player itself goes I'm happy. May get a better remote.

Mainly used for Plex DLNA and some issues popup with MKV files on the server but, for the most part, it has an excellent picture.

I bought the S5100 for an atypical application. I don't use it in the normal fashion, that is, to watch video, so I can't comment on the picture quality or any of the normal, intended functions. I use it to copy DSD audio from SACD's (super audio compact discs) to my music server. Works just fine for that, but can't comment on its video performance. Sorry.

I have been quite pleased with every aspect of this player's features. For me, the most satisfying benefit of this, particular model has been its ability to play SACDs. With a nice system, SACD playback with this inexpensive player rivals much more expensive units.

Love the upscaling and 3D features. Significantly better picture quality than standard Blu-Ray players.

Sony makes a really great product ,set up is like PS4 player, easy to navigate , Bluetooth works great, and picture quality is awesome, do not have any 3-D or blu- Ray DVDs yet, but will be buying some now, would say buy one either for blu- Ray or 3-D, otherwise your regular DVDs will work just fine.
The newest Sonys and some other brands are getting away from the front display and reducing the number of connections in the back. I still prefer to have a digital display to show tracks, power, disc in, etc. The processor in this unit is much faster than my previous X58 Sony model (though it is probably slower than the newest units), and it can play files from either USB port (front or back) fairly well. The only real drawback I have is the exceptionally easy-to-scratch top is also angled where nothing can be set on it.
Wi-Fi setup, Registration and Firmware upgrade was easy and smooth. Great picture and sound, online functions and performance with my 1.5Mbps max. ISP speed, was better than I expected. Subtracted one star for the flimsy disc tray, which generates anxiety about what's on the inside, which is subsiding after more than a month of using it.
This is a replacement for the exact same model that I had and used for many years. And then the old one died. I have a 3D TV--which is also quite old now--that requires a 3D DVD BluRay player and I was lucky to find this exact same one--which is also all region, like the old one was. I did not install it myself,,,,I had a professional do it--so I cannot say how easy or hard it is to install. It was very easy for the professional to install it--and it did not take him very long.
