A beautifully engineered and manufactured lens. Smooth movements with tight tolerances. I use this on both my Leica M3 and Fujifilm X-E2 (with adapter). The chrome brass feels good in the hand and the images are sharp and show good contrast. Bokeh is also really nice, especially wide open at f/1.5. Thus far my only complaint is really a small, cosmetic one. The black hood. Why a black hood on a silver lens? Luckily I found a used silver hood from the LTM Voigtänder Nokton that fits with a step-up ring. Thankfully, the outer diameter is the same as the black hood so the lens cap still fits.

This new Voigtländer 50mm is an aspherical version with a lot less CA and good flare control. It's reasonably sharp even at f/1.5 -- remarkably more sharp than its predecessor (which is a non-aspherical lens). Remdering is very nice and colors are good. To me, it's similar to Zeiss standards. It produces smooth bokeh and that legendary pop-up effect for the object in focus. I use it with Sony a7r and Sony a7s and it constantly shows good results. Ergonomically it's far more advanced than a non-aspherical version. The lens barrel shape is, however, a bit of unusual. But this does not mean you have to spend time getting used to it. It comes with the metal lens hood, and you don't need to buy it separately for a substantial price of $50 or more (compare to the Voigt 35 f/1.2). When compared to Sony's 55mm f/1.8, this Voigtländer 50mm f/1.5 is nearly the same in weight and size (with my Leica-M to Sony FE helicoid adapter), lacks autofocus but is a good companion in low light situations or when you really need shallow DOF and good bokeh. Advantages: speed, quality of optics, weight and size. Disadvatages: lack of autofocus (but it's a Leica-M lens, after all).Read full review
Excellent lens in quality and rendering. At f/1.5 smooth bokeh A joy to use. I have brass version. Which is up there in quality with my Leica lenses

Homage to a rare old classic but updated with a modern optical formulation. I purchased a chrome version, it is a faithful reproduction of the original Norton lens in rare LTM. It is a shame that Cosina did not also provided a copy of the original Voigtlander lens shade for this lens! It is a very sharp lens, I highly recommended!

Very sharp and good contrast. Solid build. Nice feel to focus and aperture rings. Use on Sony A7 mkii w/adapter. for me, comparable to my Nikon mount Zeiss Planar but smaller and lighter.
