  • great value!

Tamron 80-210 f3.8-f4 CF Macro is a great value lens. "Exterior" Full metal body, smooth and solid. The reverse zoom will take a bit used to, once you get it, it's easy and simple. minimal focus distance is 0.9m, really good for vintage lens. "Image Quality" wide open at f3.8 is a bit soft but definitely usable, when step down to f5.6 and beyond, it's sharp. The contrast isn't as vivid as modern lens. But when post processing comes in, problem solved. With out the hood, image can be hazy when the light is strong. CA is minimal. works fine with the 2x tele converter (01F) "Conclusion" Tamron adaptall system lens in general are like hidden gem. Really good value and quality for a friction of price. If you can live with manual focus, definitely look out for them.

  • Now my standard telephoto zoom

Tamron has long had a good reputation for building quality lenses, with a few of them (like the 90/2.5 macro) being considered classics. If this one isn't considered a classic, it should be. I own a variety of zooms in this range, from the esteemed Vivitar Series 1 (several different ones, in fact) to the Nikkor 80-200/2.8. This Tamron is the one that's usually with me. First there's the size and weight: it's by far the easiest to carry around. Second, the Adaptall mount means I can use it with my Nikon, Olympus, Minolta, Yashica and even my screw-mount gear. Third, it's nearly a constant aperture, so in the field it's very similar, exposure-wise, to the Nikon f/4 or f/4.5 zooms, or the Vivitar Series 1 f/3.5, but much lighter than either. Third, it has the most usable macro of any ...
