Pour certaines personnes aujourd'hui, Darby n'est que le fondateur d'un mouvement connu sous le nom des Frères de Plymouth, une personne dont le nom n'évoque que sévérité, division, séparation et dissidence. Malheureusement, l'idée qu'on s'en fait ne rend pas justice à l'homme qu'il était; on oublie son énorme contribution aux domaines de la traduction et de l'étude biblique. C'est pourquoi cet ouvrage cherche à établir quels sont les faits historiques entourant son travail de traduction, ainsi que les buts et les principes qui le sous-tendent. Auteur Gilles Despins exerce un ministère d'enseignement au sein des Assemblées de Frères à travers la francophonie. Il est titulaire d'un doctorat en théologie du Tyndale Theological Seminary, d'un doctorat en philosophie du Nouveau Testament du South African Theological Seminary, ainsi que d'un doctorat en ministère du Master's Seminary. En 2009, il a été recommandé à l'oeuvre à temps plein pour servir le Seigneur en tant que doyen académique et professeur de l'École Théologique ProFAC, qui offre des programmes de formation au Québec, en Haïti, et dans quelques pays francophones d'Afrique.
