New York City 1960 has Robert De Niro as young man deep in the Bronx full of crime, gangster mentality and rough necks. Calogero witnesses a shooting but Sonny mentors ropes of the streets so to speak to the boy. Calogero's father Robert DeNiro will try to show the boy about honest life. Calogero never fully understands how Sonny is dangerous. A black women will break the ties during the 60's and family values will tear such fabric of love with violence between two people. Sophistication sheds new light on gangster life in New York. Once something happens to the black girl Calogero must decide by his father or Sonny. Reality takes on two fathers for Calogero that involves hardships and confusion. A film with violence and tragedy will require adult supervision with teens if you're concidering a family night at home. Here is a review for the DVD A Bronx Tale. The movie is a classic, and marks Robert DeNiro's directorial debut. The DVD has long been out of print and there are no immediate plans to re-release it to the home DVD market. The film is a classic mob tale with great characters. The only bad thing about this film is the picture quality. When I first popped it in, I was shocked at how bad the picture quality was (film was viewed on a blu-ray player on a 1080i compatible television). I had heard numerous complaints about this from different sources, but seeing is believing. The quality of the picture could be compared to VHS. That aside, the film is a joy to watch. The DVD does have multiple language options, and subtitles. Special features include a behind the scenes featurette, cast bios, trailer, and promotional spots. Overall, being that there are no plans for a re-release, I would say buy the film if you feel (like I did) it is a must-have for your DVD library.Read full review
Robert Deniro shined in both acting and directing this tale of a young Italian boy in NY City being raised by two loving fathers. His own, played by Deniro who tried hard to show his son love and guidance and the importance of family and doing right, and the local gangster who owned the block and also loved the kid. Very well written and superior acting by the entire cast. It's realistic, funny, action packed and soul searching. This will always rank high in my book. It's truly Bronx Tough.

I am an avid Saxophone player who for some reason got burned out and stopped playing for a period of time. I took to a life of being a knight of the road and decided to drive truck for awhile. This is where you become a figment of your own imagination. Nobody knows you, everyone hates you, and nobody can live without you. During a snow storm in Gallup, NM one year, I decided to stop for the night at the local TA. Found me a spot in the back to park my rig and after some good old fashioned truck stop chow, I went into the TV room and was able to catch the second half of this movie. I had never heard of it or seen it before, but much to my amazement, I found it to be quite simple but very, very moving. This movie will teach you a lot about life and is the reason why I'm playing horn again and doing what it is that I was born to do. The truck has taken a back seat in my life and I'm building kitchen cabinets now, but when I get home, I pick up the horn and remember the last line in this movie which changed my life forever. I'm getting up there in years and everyday tends to matter a little bit more than it used to. I won't spoil the ending for you but the two things that spoke to me the most were the subject about the "Locked door test" and the last words in the movie. The rest I already sort of know about due to my previous life experiences. All I can say to anyone of reasonable intelligence is do not pass up the opportunity to watch this movie at least once, or maybe ten times if that's what it takes to get the message. In my opinion, the Wizard of OZ is by far the best movie ever made but this being a relatively simple script makes it a work of art coupled with a true education in life. It reminds me of a strong Miles Davis passage where less is more and the secret to the universe is to never give too much away. Do enjoy, jbRead full review
Well when I first viewed the movie I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I guess you can say I'm bias due to the fact that this was the neighborhood I grew up in, in the 1960's Although it was filmed in Astoria Queens, they did a good job trying to pull the wool over my eyes. The whole idea of watching a movie about where I grew up in the time I grew up in was great to me. Some parts of the movie are fiction, or just that I never heard of it. Not all movies tell the whole truth for whatever reason. I did like the acting from all actors male and female. It is entertaining, like most movies, there are parts that are boring, and parts that are so entertaining it makes up for the lul areas. Mt Carmel Church is a Church I did go to from time to time.
